Hurriyat visiting Pak with ‘govt agenda’

SRINAGAR, Jan 4 (UNI) — The Dukhtaran-e-Milat chief, Ms Asia Indrabi today accused the All-Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) of going to Pakistan to get the central government’s agenda implemented.

“They have no agenda of their own for holding talks with various militant organisations and the Pakistan government on Kashmir”, she told a crowded press conference here.

Asked about the government agenda, she said the government wanted the militants to announce a ceasefire so that it could come out of the present situation.

She accused the government of not being sincere about resolving the Kashmir issue. For a lasting solution it should accept the disputed character of Jammu and Kashmir and make Pakistan a party to it.

Until the people of Kashmir are given the right of self-determination and tripartite talks held no lasting solution is possible, she added.

She said, “We will not allow the divison of Jammu and Kashmir at any cost. Kashmir has to merge with Pakistan and that is the only lasting solution to this 53-year-old problem.’’

About the Hizbul Mujahideen, she said its leaders were giving conflicting statements. She also condemned senior Hurriyat leader Abdul Gani Lone’s remarks on the presence of foreign militants in the state.Top

Court tells BJP to hold election
Tribune News Service

JAMMU, Jan 4 — Delay in holding the election for the post of president of the state unit of the BJP has become an issue with a party supporter, Mr Som Nath, seeking a court order for filling the post through election.

The First Civil Subordinate Judge, Mr Puneet Gupta, in whose court Mr Som Nath filed a petition, challenging the delay in holding the election, has directed the BJP President, Mr Bangaru Laxman, and other functionaries of the party to hold the election as per the constitution of the party. The court has restrained the party plan to nominate the president.

In his order, Mr Gupta has said the election “shall be conducted in accordance with the constitution of the party”. He, however said the order was “subject to objections of the other side” and directed that a copy of the order be sent to the defendant.

The state unit of the BJP is a divided house with one group wanting the party president to be nominated and the other seeking election to the post. The election is overdue by six months.Top
