Masters’ organisation seeks changes
From Our Correspondent

DORAHA, Dec 29 — A meeting of the Masters’ Organisation was held here in which removal of anomalies in the present promotion system was demanded and necessary amendments were sought.

In the meeting that was held under the presidentship of Mr Harjit Singh Balari, it was demanded that the promotion from Master cadre to Lecturer cadre, that is at present on the basis of seniority, must be made on the basis of merit. The members of the organisation said that the existing promotion system was defective as it promoted a person with a mere 35 per cent score in postgraduation to teach any subject.

The organisation demanded that a person considered for promotion must have studied the subject of postgraduation as an elective subject in his graduation. Also he or she must have at least a second division in postgraduation.

Mr Harjit Singh Balari, president of the organisation said that they had already met the Education Minister, Mr Tota Singh at Moga on December 17. He further claimed that Mr Tota Singh had agreed to make necessary amendments at the earliest and a meeting would be convened by the Education Minister at Chandigarh, shortly, in order to finalise the decision.

Those attending the meeting included Mr Dalwinder Singh Minhas, Mr Bahadur Singh Dalvi, Mr Gurbachan Singh Kahlon, Mr Ranjit Singh , Mr Surjit Singh Arora, Mr Anil Kant and Mr Dilbag Singh.
