A promising golfer from Patiala

CHANDIGARH, Dec 25 — Jaskeerat Singh Dullet a Class X student of Yadavindra Public School, Patiala, has made a name in the world of golf with his achievements over the past few years. He shot into the limelight by winning the trophy in “sub-junior section of the Eastern India Golf Championship held in, Calcutta recently. Jaskeerat, who is not yet 15, posted a fine 13 stroke victory over S Rafiq. Earlier this month, in the South India Junior and Sub Junior Golf Tournament at Bangalore, he claimed the title in Class ‘B’ with an aggregate of 310. His previous win were in Northern India Golf Tournament in Delhi and All-India DLF Golf Tournament at Gurgaon. He stood 5th in the Asia Pacific Golf Tournament held in Calcutta in May last. He was 3rd in the Singapore Open in the under 15 category in this June.

Jaskeerat who plays at Black Elephant Golf Club, Patiala took to golf in 1997.

He got his first breakthrough in the Ammanat Junior Golf Tournament at Chandigarh in January 1998. Then in April, 1998, he won the title in the juniors section of the Bengal Sappers Golden Jubilee Golf tournament at Roorkee. He got the second place in the Northern India Junior Golf Tournament at Chandigarh in October, 1998, in the under 13 section, then won the Western India Junior Golf Tournament in Mumbai in December 1998.

In January, 1999, Jaskeerat was third in the All- India Junior and Sub-Junior Golf Tournament in Calcutta. Jaskeerat said that his father, Mr Amarjit Singh Dullet, had guided him all these years. He said that golf was now becoming more popular in India, thanks to the fine performance put up by many golfers of this region.

Challenger trophy

St John’s High School, Sector 26, and DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, won their respective matches in under-14 and under-16 sections of the Ist St John’s Challenger Trophy-2000 being played at St John’s High School. St John’s outplayed Hansraj Public School, Sector 6, Panchkula, by five wickets, while DAVSSS-8 outscored St John’s-26 by just eight runs. In the third match, YPS, SAS Nagar, defeated Little Flower School, Panchkula, with 58 runs.

Office-bearers elected

Mr Kuldip Singh Bassi, Mr Baljinder Singh and Mr PS Lamba were elected unanimously as chairman, president and secretary, respectively, of the Chandigarh Wushu Association. The other office-bearers are: vice-chairmans — Mr Rakesh Bakshi, Mr RS Bedi and Mr Avtar Singh; vice-presidents — Mr Sukhwinder Singh, Mr Farmesh Singh, Mr Rajinder Rajput, Mr Kuldeep Singh and Mr Surinder Kumar; Joint secretaries — Mr Bhupinder Kumar, Mr Paramjeet Singh, Mr Rohit Garg, Mr Prabhjot Singh and Mr Ajay Kumar; and treasurer — Mr S. Devgan.
