Telecom Dept told to pay damages LUDHIANA,
Dec 14 — The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the Telecom Department to give a rent rebate to Mr Satpal Khurana, a resident of Jamalpur, for the period his telephone was not working. The department has also been directed to pay him Rs 2,000 as damages. Mr Khurana had complained to the forum in March that his telephone (number 650799) had developed a fault in February 2000. He said when he had complained to the JTO concerned on March 21, 29 and 30, in this regard, the official had been rude to him. In his decision, the head of the forum said the department had admitted that there had been a fault and it had taken a long time to repair it. It connection remained faulty from January 13 to 21, March 7 to 11, March 13 to 16, April 4 to 11, May 23 to 26, May 26 to 31, June 6 to 9, June 11 to 13 and June 14 to 17. The forum also said it was a case of deficiency in service and the complainant had suffered due to the negligence on part of the department. Even after the department said it had removed the fault, the telephone remained defective. |
