Rs 18 crore spent on Rajouri
projects JAMMU, Dec 12 — Over Rs 18 crore have been spent on various development, poverty alleviation, employment generation and social welfare schemes in Rajouri district during the first seven months of the current financial year. This was revealed during a meeting of sectoral officers held at Rajouri yesterday. The District Development Commissioner, Rajouri, Mr K.A. Khan presided over the meeting. The meeting was informed that of the total expenditure, Rs 1250.97 lakh had been spent on social and general services, Rs 256.52 lakh on the agriculture and allied sectors, Rs 76.33 lakh on community development and Gujjar and Bakerwal development, Rs 92.07 lakh on communication, Rs 66.97 lakh on industries, Rs 37.17 lakh under the IRDP and Rs 13.77 lakh under the JRY. The meeting was informed that 71610 hectares had been brought under different crops, of which 68568 hectares had been cultivated with high yielding varieties of maize, wheat, pulses, oil seeds and fodder. For this purpose 676 quintals of high yielding variety seeds and 5216 tonnes of chemical fertilisers were provided to the farmers. Similarly, 1803 hectares area had been covered under vegetable cultivation during the period. In the animal husbandry sector 95000 cattle had been dosed against liver fluke besides 76000 animals vaccinated against various contagious and non-contagious diseases. The meeting was also informed that three lakh kg of wool and 11 lakh kg of mutton production had been recorded during the period. |
2 killed, 51 injured
in road mishaps JAMMU, Dec 12 (UNI) — Two persons were killed and 51 injured, some of them seriously, in two road accidents in the Jammu region since last evening, officials said here today. Those killed were members of a marriage party. Six persons were injured in the accident that occurred at Chana Rodian, 17 km from Kathua, on Jammu-Pathankot national highway. In another accident, a bus carrying another marriage party skidded-off the road at Balotre Chak near Nandpur in R.S. Pura sector late last night injuring 45 people, including women and children. The injured have been admitted to hospital, the sources said.
