Scientific approach to hair care stressed
From Our Correspondent

CHANDIGARH, Dec 12 — Beauticians and hair stylists of the city got an insight into scientific approach to hair care through trichology during the seminar —Let’s talk trichology — organised by Godrej Hair Care Institute at a hotel in Sector 35 here today.

Delivering a lecture on the science of hair care, Dr Apoorva Shah spoke on hair-related problems, including premature greying, dandruff and hair damage due to perming and colouring. Demonstrating the use of trichoanalyser and hair sonography, he emphasised the need to understand condition of hair.

Answering queries on premature greying, he said genetic conditions were mainly to blame. Trichology had developed techinques to arrest premature greying by balancing the melanin level which was required to keep the hair black. Saying that dendruff-related problem was mainly associated with personal hygiene, he stressed the need for tackling the problem at the initial stage. Though henna was a good conditioner, it helped the scalp and not the hair, he added.

A magazine on personal grooming and beauty — Beauty and Saloon — was also released. Introducing the magazine, Mr Dom Daniel, editor of the magazine, claimed that the magazine was an answer to the Indian consumers and the professionals involved in the industry who did not have access to information on the latest developments.

About 100 beauticians and saloon owners of the city attended the seminar. Ms Rimpy Phillips and Ms Swati Gokhale from the institute also spoke on the occasion.
