Decks cleared for Jaya’s trial
CHENNAI, Dec 8 (UNI) — Decks have been cleared for trial in the income tax returns case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK General Secretary J. Jayalalitha following the Madras High Court vacating the stay granted by it in 1996. The Income Tax Department had registered a case against Ms Jayalalitha for her failure to file tax returns for the assessment year 1993-94.

Miraculous escape
NEW DELHI, Dec 8 (UNI) — The nose wheel tyres of a Jet Airways flight from Mumbai burst while the aircraft was on its landing roll at the Mangalore airport today, but nobody was injured. The aircraft a Boeing 737-400, came to a halt on the runway at 1115 hours and the 129 passengers disembarked using step ladders.
