Schools celebrate annual day

LUDHIANA, Dec 5 — Annual day was celebrated at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Public School, Civil Lines, and Shamrock Christian School, Humbran Road, here today.

More than 200 students of Gujranwala Guru Nanak Public School were given away prizes for their performances in academics, sports and extra-curricular activities. The cultural programme began with a welcome song by students of Class II. They came down from stage and presented bouquets to the guests. The tiny tots presented an action song. A dance on an English number was presented.

The Merchant of Venice was presented by girl students of senior classes. A song highlighting the message of unity in diversity was presented. A folk song was sung by students of Classes III and IV. The programme concluded with bhangra Mr Tarlochan Singh, vice-chairman, Minorities Commission, was the chief guest.

At Shamrock Christian School, the cultural programme began with a welcome song, followed by a prayer dance. The primary section students presented a Hindi play titled Kala Khargosh, while the senior section students presented an English play titled The Change in Indian Women.

A dance item was presented on an English number. Garbha was performed by middle grade girls. The programme ended with bhangra. Mr M.S. Bhullar, Additional Director-General, Armed Police, Punjab, was the chief guest.

157 cases disposed of at Lok Adalats

FATEHGARH SAHIB, Dec 5 — The district Legal Services Authority organised five Lok Adalats at the judicial complex here yesterday. These Lok Adalats were presided over by Mr M.L. Malhotra, District and Sessions Judge, Mr A.N. Jindal, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr Vijay Singh, Civil Judge Senior Division, Mr H.S. Grewal, Civil Judge, and Mr Ranjan Kumar, Civil Judge.

In these Lok Adalats 301 cases were taken up and 157 were disposed of. Compensation to the tune of Rs 9,98,220 was awarded, out of which payment orders worth Rs 3,03,220 were handed over by Mr M.L. Malhotra, chairman of Legal Services Authority.

The chairman also took up 31 petitions of bank loan cases at pre-litigative stage. Out of these, eight petitions were disposed of and recovery worth Rs 16,300 was realised.
