DAV-10 win inter-college relay races

CHANDIGARH, Dec 5 — DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh, won the inter-college relay races (men) with 50 points. SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, PU Campus Chandigarh and GNN College, Doraha, secured second, third and fourth position, respectively. Khalsa College for women, Ludhiana, won the women event while Ramgarhia Girls College, Ludhiana, secured second position and GGS College, Sector 26, stood third.

The results are:

4 x 100 m relay: DAV College, Chandigarh 1, SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur 2, GNN College, Doraha 3.

4 x 800 m relay: DAV College 1, GGD SD College, Chandigarh 2, PU Campus, Chandigarh 3.

Decathlon: Gurbinder Singh ( GGSS DAV, Jalalabad) 1, Hakam Chand 2, Bikramjit Singh ( DAVC-10) 3.

20-km walk: Amardeep Singh (DAVC-10) 1, Shiv Ram (SSGS) Khalsa College, Mahilpur 2, Gurdhian Singh (DAVC-10) 3.

Half marathon: Sanjeev Kumar ( SGS-26) 1, Jasbir Singh ( SGGS-26) 2, A.S. Kumar ( GGS DAV, Jalalabad) 3.

In the PU inter-college cricket 'A' division tournament for men, GGN Khalsa College, Ludhiana, defeated Government College, Ludhiana, by 112 runs. In another match, Government College, Sector 11, defeated SGGS College, Sector 26, by five runs.

Snooker title
Pramod Kumar clinched the junior snooker title in the NK Duggal Memorial Chandigarh State Junior Billiards and Snooker Tournament played here. In the final, Pramod defeated Sumit Talwar, 72-62, 32-56, 65-50, 34-63, 51-38 and 08-47.

Women’s cricket
Suneyna Mehan will lead the women cricket team of Panchkula district in the Haryana State Senior Women Cricket Championship to be held at Panchkula from December 17 to 25. The other members are, Riju, Manju, Sanju, Deeepshika, Simple Sharma, Reena, Meena, Kamlesh, Naiyani, Ruchika, Neena, Sushila, Rashi, Mamta, Shefali, Tejinder, Jyoti and Puneet.

Football tourney
The VK Rana Memorial Football Tournament will be held from December 21 to 23 at the HMT sports complex, Pinjore. Entries close on December 12 with Ashok Rana.

Squash circuit
The sub-regional round of the BOP ASPN squash circuit will be held on December 9 and 10 at St John's High School, Sector 26. Events will be held in the under-11 age group for boys and girls. Customs officers corner glory

CHANDIGARH, Dec 5 — Two officers of the Customs and Central Excise Department, Chandigarh, brought laurels to the department as well as to the city in the recently concluded Central Revenue Golf Tournament at Bangalore on December 2. As many as 70 entries were received for the tournament and officers of three departments — Central Excise, Customs and Income Tax — from all over India participated.

Mr G S Narang, Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise (Appeals), Chandigarh won the first prize in the bronze category (handicap-19-30). The tournament was played on stableford format and Narang secured 45 points, making him the outright winner.

Another officer of the department, Mr Rajiv Kapoor, Deputy Commissioner, won the first prize for the longest drive again in the Bronze category. His teeshot covered a distance of 252 yards on the 18th hole.
