Lawyers resent EO
notices CHANDIGARH There were about 800 lawyers without chambers in the District Courts. These lawyers complained to The Tribune that there were limited number of chambers in the complex. As per the original conditions of allotment of 108 chambers which took place in 1986, there had to be one allottee and two co-alottees which were to be decided upon in consultation with the Administration. The number of chambers remain same from many years. So the lawyers have no alternative, than to encroach space. Even about 300 lawyers had filled application invited by the Estate Office for re-allotment of chambers in 1998 and each had submitted Rs 1,000 along with the application, the Administration had done nothing till now, they said. Senior officer of the Estate Office earlier informed that office had served the notice to the lawyers, who have occupied space illegally, and owners of the kiosk canteens within the courts premises. The President of the District Bar Association, Mr N.K Nanda, said that hundreds of lawyers in the District Courts do not have chambers. Mr Nanda further added that soon the District Bar Association was going to meet the Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator, Lieut-Gen J.F.R Jacob(Retd), to inform him about the problems of the lawyers. Talking about kiosk canteens, Mr Nanda said the Bar Association regularly checks the canteens and the canteens owners always take care of the cleanliness and hygienic food. |
