ADC pledges to donate eyes and kidneys

LUDHIANA, Nov 28 — The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mr S.R. Kler, while lauding the role played by voluntary organisations towards serving the ailing humanity, pledged to donate his eyes and kidneys. Inaugurating a free medical and eye check up camp, jointly organised by Lal Bahadur Shastri Social Forum and United Nations Youth Organisation (Punjab) at Gurudwara Reru Sahib in Lohara village near here on Sunday.

The team of Dr J.M. Singh, Senior Medical Officer, Mobile Eye Unit and Dr I.S. Bagga checked the eyes of around 975 persons and performed 30 eye operations. Another team of doctors performed general medical check up of more than 400 persons and free medicines were also provided to them.

Former Punjab minister Malkiat Singh Dakha and Mr Mohinder Singh Kalyan were also present at the occasion.

Streetlight project commissioned

LUDHIANA, Nov 28 — The Area Councillor, Ms Surjit Kaur Dang, has assured the residents of Model Town extension and other localities in her ward that all development work would be undertaken on priority basis and the ongoing work would be completed speedily.

She was addressing in a function organised by the Welfare Association of Model Town Extension to mark the commissioning of streetlight project under which sodium-vapour lamps have been installed in the locality.

Mr B.S. Makkar, chairman, Mr T.P.S. Gujral, president, Mr Baldev Singh, general secretary, Mr H.S. Dhall, vice-president of the association, senior Akali Dal leader, Mr Harbhajan Singh Dang and officials of the civic body, among others were present on the occasion.
