Training course on soil fertility

LUDHIANA, Nov 26 — A month-long training course on Pedology and soil mineralogy in relation to soil fertility was inaugurated by Dr J.S. Kolar, Director of Extension Education, in the Department of Soils, Punjab Agricultural University, on November 23. The course will conclude on December 22.

Dr B.R. Arora, Head of the Department of Soils and Director of the Centre of Advanced Studies, welcomed the chief guest and scientists who came from all over the country to participate in the course. He explained the need of the course in view of the depleting soil resources which may limit the crop production.

Dr C. L. Arora, Senior Soil Chemist in the department, said that 20 scientists and teachers will receive training in this course. Nineteen scientists from the Department of Soils, Agronomy and Agricultural Engineering, two from the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, and four scientists from Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh will impart training to the participants.
