Prosthondontics meet concludes

CHANDIGARH, Nov 26 — Implants were the focus of the scientific sessions of the XXVIII Indian Prosthondontics Society Congress which concluded here, today. The theme of the three- day congress was “Prosthondontics: In the light of nature.” Mr Mike Clavin from Australia, addressing the issue of solving the dilemma of shade in matching artificial teeth and dentures said that latest technology this could be easily achieved.

Dr Ajit Shetty talked about the latest implant tooth connectivity while Dr Dilip Deshpande gave the details about the form, function and aesthetics in implants.

The conference concluded with a symposium on “Integrated prosthondontics where ignorance is not bliss.” Dr Suresh Meshram, Dr Sharat Shetty, Dr Sitaram Wagle, Dr Surjit Bopardikar and Dr Ali Tunkiwala deliberated on the topic. More that 450 delegates participated in this congress.

Golf Club elections on Dec 9

CHANDIGARH, Nov 26 — The elections to the executive committee of the Chandigarh Golf Club is likely to be well contested with 23 members in the fray for various posts. Votes to elect the new 11 - member executive committee for the year 2001 will be polled on December 9.

For the post of president, only one nomination of Mr Gurinderjit Singh Sandhu, a Punjab cadre IAS officer, has been received. He will be elected unopposed. Mr Sandhu has also been the president this year.

Following the scrutiny of nominations, the following members have been found eligible to contest the elections. According to Col Jamsher Singh Gill, the returning officer for these elections, the following members owe allegiance to the G.S Sandhu group — Mr Alamgir Singh Grewal, Lt Col A.P.S. Dhillon, Lt Col. G.S Sidhu ( Gurki) , Mr Gurinder Singh Attariwala (Dimpy), Col H.S Baidwan; Dr J.S Chadha, Col J.S Panag, Col. Ranjit Grewal, Mr S.M.S. Sandhu, Mr Nippy Ghai and Mr Sandeep Singh Sandhu ( Bobby).

The members owing allegiance to the other group are Mr Bhavneet Singh Gill ( Raju), Col B.S Goraya, Col Iqbal Singh, Col J.S Kang, Mr Kuldip Singh Bedi, Mr K.S. Sibia (Biru), Mr K.S. Brar, Mr Nirmaljit Singh Gill, Mr Randeep Singh, Mr Ravinder Chadha, Mr Satish Kumar Kakkar and Mr Sukhjotpreet Singh Matharu ( Jyoti). The 12th member of the executive is generally the captain of the previous year, until unless he is re-elected as the captain.

The final list of the contestants will be displayed on November 28, following withdrawals, if any, by tomorrow evening. Of the total 2000 members of the club, nearly 1000 are likely to cast their votes. Colonel Gill informed that the counting of votes would be held on December 10 in the conference room of the club. He further said that door to door canvassing and holding parties collectively to woo voters has been banned. However, normal canvassing is allowed till the time of elections.Back

 

Induraj sets record in 800 m race

SAS NAGAR, Nov 26 — The 21st annual meet of Yadvindra Public School was declared open by Dr H.S. Dhillon, Principal of the school, here today. Mr Gurbaksh Singh Sandhu, a veteran international volleyball player, was the chief guest on the occasion.

The chief guest in his address appreciated the performance of students. The following are the results of the different competitions held on the occasion. In the 800 m race for Class X and above (Group A): Induraj created a new record. In Group B, boys of class VIII and IX set a new record. In shot put (Group A) Jaspreet Singh made a new record. Boys of Class VI and VII (Group C) created a new record in 800 m and the 200 m race was won by Arshdeep. In triple jump (Group B) Babanreet made a new record of 11.15 m.

In group D, girls of Class IX class and above — Sahira Bhullar, Kriti and Amneet — made a new record in 1500 m races. In the junior school category, Gurnam jumped 2.72 m in Group H. In Group G, Taranveer, Karanjit and Saurav of Class IV. In Groups F, G and H, Alam, Taranbir and Tarunpreet were declared the best athletes. Patiala House came first with 381 points, Atchison House scored 368 points and Ranjit House score 329 points.

In the senior school, Babanreet, Jaspuneet, Jasmine Kaur and Kamalapreet of Groups A,B,C ,D,E, respectively, were declared the best athlete. The house positions were- Aitchison, Ranjit House and Patiala House.

Aditya, Ekta are best athletes

CHANDIGARH, Nov 26 — Aditya Sharma and Ekta Chadda were declared best boy athlete and best girl athlete, respectively, in the annual sports meet of Mount Carmel School, Sector 47, here yesterday. Students from Class KG to X took part in the various events like three-legged race, banana race, high jump, hurdle race, etc. As many as 165 medals were awarded to winners of the various events. Also 90 students were awarded for 100 per cent attendance during the session 1999-2000.Back
