600 take part in Healthy Child Contest

LUDHIANA, Nov 19 — The Ludhiana Citizens’ Health Council today organised a Healthy Child Contest at R.S. Model Senior Secondary School. A cultural programme was also held on the occasion. About 600 children from various age groups and around 27 schools participated in the event. This included group dances and songs as well as individual performances. The event was inaugurated by Mr Amrish Jain and Mr Roop K. Thapar was the chief guest. Mr Nirmal Jain presided over the inaugural function.

Babies were judged on account of their height, weight, IQ, appearance, hygienic conditions and vaccination done. According to Dr Surinder Gupta, who had come there for examining children, said that most of the babies were healthy. He added that he could spot only four or five anaemic children. Other judges included Dr Ritu Gupta, Dr Seema Goyal, Ms Anu Gupta and Ms Harjinder Kaur.

Pfizer Dumex also set up a stall to give knowledge regarding Hepatitis B vaccine. Protinex milk was distributed. Shalako soaps and oils were also given to the winners.

Ms Usha Goyal, Ms Neelam Mahajan, Ms Neerja Singla and Ms Meenu Jain were the judges on the occasion. Mr H.D. Dumra and Mr Hakim Sham Lal gave away the prizes to the winners.
