The tree of life THE tree of life is a common term and in dreams it acquires a spiritual significance for a few religious sects, among which Hindus and Egyptians are prominent. It represents the union of air, earth and water. It is also symbolic of the basic structure of our inner lives. To dream of a tree with wide branches would suggest a warm, loving personality, whereas a small close-leafed tree would suggest an upright personality. A well-shaped tree would suggest a well-ordered personality, while a large messy tree is symbolic of a chaotic personality. Dreaming of trees with fresh new leaves foretells of a consummation of hopes and desires. Dead trees signal sorrow and loss. To cut a tree in your dreams or to uproot it, denotes wastage of energy and wealth in foolish ventures which shall not prove rewarding. To see green trees newly felled shall bring forth a lot of unhappiness which shall follow happiness and prosperity. Fate shall take an unexpected turn for the worse. As per Hindu mythology, to see a tree
in your dreams is very beneficial. To see yourself climb one is a
symbol of swift elevation and preferment. You shall gain respect and
wealth. The tree is also a religious symbol for Hindus. The peepul
trees is taken as Brahma and is worshiped for knowledge. Whereas the
banyan is prayed for a long life, peace and happiness. As per the
belief of Egyptians, trees are said to have originated from divine
tears. The soul, according to them, derives nourishment from the tree
of life. |
Psychoanalytically, the tree has a bisexual character, while flowering and fruit trees carry more of a maternal significance. Trees such as the banyan and oak are predominantly ‘male’ due to their strength and physical properties. Each part of a tree carries a different significance of our self. The trunk of a tree gives us an indication of how to use our energies as well as the kind of persona we portray to the world. Where a smooth trunk would indicate sophistication a rough one suggests a rough and ready personality. The roots of a tree show our connection with ourselves and the earth. Deep-rooted trees indicate our self contained attitude whereas spreading roots indicate a more physical aspect of our nature. Branches signify the stages of growth we go through. To make this symbol easier to understand, we can take the example of a dream of a 44-year-old woman. She was an issueless lady who for the past two weeks had a dream at least seven times. In her dream, she saw coconut trees with colourful leaves but with fruit which looked more like pears growing on it. The tree was fully laden with fruits. Colourful leaves indicate happiness and
prosperity, and the fruit indicates fulfilment of wishes.
Psychoanalytically, it denotes the recognition of fruit of our hard
labour. But the most significant aspect is the unusualness of the tree;
the colourful leaves and the pear-shaped fruits. Although your dreams
shall be fulfilled and happiness shall come your way, it shall not be
according to your aspirations. The gains shall be totally unexpected. |
