Health club, flood-lit driving range
Golf Club to acquire new look soon
Tribune News Service

CHANDIGARH, Oct 25 — The Chandigarh Golf Club will soon wear a new look. Yes, the club will have a modern health club, complete with a sauna bath and steam exercise and also a full-fledged gymnasium. And these latest additions should be functional by this month-end. This is the promise held out by the new President of the club, Mr Gurinderjeet Singh Sandhu.

And as a follow-up of the brief talk with The Tribune, Mr Sandhu took the Tribune team around to have a look at the new facilities coming up. Work was going on in full swing. Sitting next to the President, was Dr Ravinder Chadha, a former official doctor for the Indian cricket team. Mr Sandhu said the health club would benefit all — those seeking leisure and those needing stronger muscles.

And next in line is a flood-lit driving range. Although such a range has been promised earlier, but this time the work on it would be completed, said Mr Sandhu. He was also hopeful of a squash court coming up by November-end. It will have glass walls. These new facilities will be the millennium gift to the club members.

The flood-lit driving range will enable the club members to hone their skills even after sunset. “If all goes according to the schedule, the club should be equipped with these facilities by February,” said Mr Sandhu, who also talked about the emphasis being laid on the course. He said even at the height of summer the fairways presented a lush green look.

He said the fourth green had been relaid. Steps were being made to have bermuda grass on the entire course. And by March he was hopeful of the course standing out as the best in the country.

Mr Sandhu did not wish to be drawn into the controversy about the new Chandigarh Golf Range. “That is a separate entity,” he said.

He said the membership of the Golf Club had gone up and it was very difficult to add more members. He said on an average 400 golfers practised at the club daily.
