PSEB fined
for harassing consumer LUDHIANA, Oct 24 — In a unique case, the District Consumer Redressal Forum today fined the PSEB Rs 5,000 as payment to a consumer who had been told by the PSEB to pay the electricity bill of his son. The forum pronouncing the orders said the bill by one electricity connection could not be transferred to the other one. The consumer, Dial Singh, had pleaded for the compensation due to harassment caused to him by the act of the PSEB that handed him a bill of more than Rs 1 lakh, which was in fact of the electricity connection of his son. The consumer said he was shocked to receive the bill. On making enquires, it was found that the bill was actually arrears of the bill of connection in the name of his son, Pritpal Singh. He decided to contest it as he was living separately from his son and the meters were also different. The
PSEB, interestingly, first said that it was justified in transferring the bill amount as both the meters were installed in the same premises. However, later it admitted the mistake and in an application before the forum said that it would charge the bill from the son and not from the father.
