LUDHIANA,
Oct 23 — Students of the J.D. Institute of Fashion and Technology spent a week decorating sweet boxes to be presented as gifts. They made use of ordinary cardboard boxes and covered these with a mixture of plaster of paris and flour. After the mixture dried, they painted the boxes with oil colour and added touches of gold and silver colours to enhance their beauty. On some of the boxes, they affixed small statues of gods and goddesses to add to the their appeal.
The students also made attractive wall hangings by a simple method. They painted pieces of mats and fixed small statues of religious figures on it. Round baskets were covered with silver and gold paint and attractive painted diyas were arranged inside these baskets. The students also made small baskets covered with thick cotton threads and embellished these by sticking golden and silver stars and sequins on them.
The students prepared these beautiful gift items to earn pocket money for Divali which, they said, would enable them to buy gifts for their loved ones.
