CHANDIGARH, Oct 16 — The colleges of the city have geared up for the forthcoming student elections on October 20. DAV College, Sector 10, was the most active, while major activity was virtually missing in girls’ colleges.

Activists of the two opposing groups visited the colleges today. This set the ball rolling for campaigning by various parties.

D.P. Randhawa, president of SOPU, Panjab University, addressed a rally outside DAV College and declared his party’s support for the DAV Students Union (DSU). The candidates being fielded by SOPU here are Kushaldeep Singh (Johny) for president, Divakar Verma for vice-president, Nirbhay Garg for general secretary and Sahibjeet Singh for joint secretary. The DAV Students Association is being supported by the ABVP. It is fielding Gurpreet Singh Brar for president, Nishu Dubey for general secretary, Kuldeep Negi for joint secretary. The DAV Students Party is fielding Sanjeet Narwana for president.

In other colleges, the fight is not so hot and the number of candidates is not more than two for the same post. Sajjan Singh is the common candidate for the post of President of Government College for Men, Sector 11, while at SD College, Rajinder Kumar and Jagdeep Singh Babloo are fighting for the post of the college president, Renu and Amita Brar for the post of vice-president, Parminder Sodhi and Ritesh Arora (Raka) for the post of general secretary and Marut Sharma and Geetika Gupta for the post of joint secretary.

Neeelkamal Daroach is standing for the post of president, Aman Sekhon for the post of vice-president, Ripujit Sidhu for the post of general secretary and Tapasya for the post of joint secretary.
