2 Americans share Nobel for Economics
STOCKHOLM, Oct 11 (AFP) — Americans James Heckman and Daniel McFadden won the Nobel Prize for Economics today for their work in the field of microeconometrics. The two have “developed theory and methods that are widely used in the empirical analysis of individual and household behaviour, within economics as well as other social sciences,” the citation said. The Economics prize is the only one of the six Nobel Prizes not originally included in Alfred Nobel’s testament. It was created by the Swedish Central Bank in commemoration of its tercentenary in 1968, and the first was awarded in 1969.
UNCHR session
UNITED NATIONS, Oct 11 (PTI) — The UN Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) has decided to hold a special session on the situation in West Asia, a UN spokesman said here. The bureau of the 53-member Geneva-based commission, the UN’s main policy-making body dealing with human rights issues, would shortly decide on the dates of the special session, spokesman Stephane Dujarric said here yesterday.

NEW DELHI, Oct 11 (UNI) — The CBI has not found any evidence to link former India captain Kapil Dev with the match-fixing and betting scandal that has rocked the cricketing world, the Star News Channel said today. The interim CBI report is ready and at least three or four players have been found involved in throwing matches for money, the channel said quoting unnamed sources.
