From Our CorrespondentLUDHIANA, Oct 11 — A two-day annual exhibition of science, art and craft, gardening, photography, audio-visuals and home science was inaugurated at Kundan Vidya Mandir here today.
In the art and craft section, there were a variety of embroidered handicrafts on display. All forms of paintings, including chalk painting, water colours, oil colours, fabric painting, glass painting, ceramic painting were exhibited.
In the photography section, the photographs clicked by students on various tours and trips and those from the day-to-day life were displayed. In the gardening section, the variety of herbs and shrubs like pomegranate, custard apple, Chinese orange were on display. Students were seen giving tips on various gardening techniques, including grafting and bonsai culture.
In the home science section, various flower making techniques from chemicals, organdi and paper were demonstrated. Dry and fresh flower arrangements were made. Tie and dye techniques and block printing methods were on display. The girls were also applying mehndi and tatoos on the hands of visitors.
In the biology section, there were 24 exhibits. The most distinctive was the step by step knee surgery carried out on Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, Prime Minister. Explaining the advantages of genetic engineering was the exhibit displaying production of human insulin. Other exhibits in this section included those on various forms of eye defects, congenial abnormalities, causes of asthma and cancer, taste receptors and ill-effects of smoking and intake of alcohol.
In the chemistry section, various types of chemical tests like food adulteration test and nickel plating were demonstrated. In the physics section working models of electric train, solar heaters, slide projector, eco-friendly ways of production of electricity and electroless plating were displayed.
The Eco Club under the guidance of Mrs Pratibha Rath, coordinator of the club, had made show pieces from the waste material, Pepsi flowers from the one litre Pepsi bottles, baskets from newspapers, masks of cardboard, storage boxes from greeting cards and a scenery from broom. The various processes of recycling of the waste material were also explained through models.
Students of the primary section made models on water pollution, wild life conservation, problems due to over-crowding in cities, depletion of ozone layer and evolution of human being.
The most attractive section of the exhibition was the audio-visual part. Padam Goyal, a class XI student had programmed Kaun Banega Crorepati. The quiz was being conducted in exactly the same manner with four multiple choice questions and three life lines. A cyber cafe was also there. A website of the school made by Mohit of class XI was also being shown. In the hall, multimedia slide presentations made by the students on school activities, nursery rhymes, alphabets and fairy tales under the guidance of computer teacher, Ms Sonia Shroff, were being shown.
Mr M.M. Vyas, chairman, Improvement Trust, was the chief guest on the occasion. Mrs Indira Kumar, Principal, said that the exhibition on various subjects was an annual affair.
