DMCH celebrates founders' day
From Our Correspondent

LUDHIANA, Oct 9 — Dayanand Medical College and Hospital celebrated its foundation day today with pomp and show. The function was, among others, attended by faculty members, students, employees, former principals and students.

The function was inaugurated by Mr B.M. Munjal, president, DMCH Managing Society, by lighting the lamp. The programme started with Vande Matram rendered by students. Dr Sandeep Puri, Deputy Medical Superintendent, presented a slide show on the history of DMCH achievements. He revealed that on October 5, 1934, a former captain of the IMA started Arya Medical School with just 20 students, but in 1964 a separate managing committee was formed. In 1967 the building was shifted to the present building, now known as Old DMC campus. Since then the institution has been nurtured by teamwork of people associated with it.

As a result, within a short period of time, it has become among the top most medical colleges of India having innumerable super specialities and ICUs. It was apparent from the fact that 30 toppers of the PMET opted for DMCH. Not only in the field of medical care, DMC has made mark in the field of academics and extra-curricular activities as it keeps organising various cultural and sports events.

The Principal, Dr S.C. Ahuja, delivered the welcome address on behalf of students and faculty. Mr Prem Nath Gupta said that the occasion was a tribute to all people who had contributed in the growth of the institution. Today the hospital has 1,100 beds and every year 45,000 patients are admitted. The hospital also provided help to families of Kargil martyrs in every possible form, Mr Gupta said.

Former Principals were honoured with shawls and momentos. Mr Munjal in his address appreciated the contributions of all those who put their lot taking DMCH to new heights of achievement.

To motivate the employees, students and faculty special awards were given.

A colourful cultural show was presented by students, faculty and employees of DMCH.
