Aditya, Nadia pocket titles

CHANDIGARH, Oct 9 — Nadia Saini of DAV Public School, Sector 8, won the junior girls' title in the 13th Chandigarh State Table Tennis Championship in the Sector 23 hall here today. She defeated Megha Kassal of AKSIP School, Sector 41, 21-18, 23-21, 21-18.

Aditya Puri of Manav Mangal School, Sector 21, clinched the sub-junior boys' title. He beat Sajal Kaushal of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35, 22-20, 11-21, 21-14, 12-21, 21-14. In the men's section, Tarun Akku, Anoop KC, Dheeraj Arora, Manish, Sunil, Amod Dixit, Harish Kumar and Tarun Kinger entered the last eight. In the women's section, the quarter-finals entrants included Barkha KC, Arshdeep, Anuradha Bansal, Megha, Mamta Bhambri, Manu KC, Nadia Saini and Shikha Sharma.

Results — junior girls: final — Nadia Saini b Megha Kassal 21-18, 23-21, 21-18; semi-finals — Nadia b Ruchika Gupta 21-10, 21-11, 21-15; Megha b Arshdeep Kaur 22-14, 21-17, 21-19; sub-junior boys: final — Aditya Puri b Sajal Kaushal 22-20, 11-21, 21-14, 12-21, 21-14; junior boys: semi-finals — Aditya b Ramit Singla 21-19, 18-21, 21-16, 17-21, 23-21; Sajal b Varun Kassal 18-21, 21-18, 21-17, 18-21, 21-14.

Inter-financial meet
LIC Employees Cricket Club and Food Corporation of India made it to the last eight of the second Inter-Financial Cricket Tournament at Gursagar Grounds. The other six teams are Punjab Financial Corporation, Canara Bank, Inde-Dutch Systems, Punjab Tractors Limited, Reserve Bank of India and Haryana State Industrial Corporation.

Cricket tourney
Hosts St John's High School, Sector 26, and St Xavier's School, Sector 44, surged ahead in the under-10 section of the third Blessed Edmund Rice Cricket Tournament. While St John's beat St Kabir's School, Sector 26, by 9 wickets, St Xavier's outplayed Saupin's School, Panchkula, by 71 runs.

In the under-16 section, St Xavier's School, Sector 44, beat Manav Mangal School, Sector 21, by 38 runs and Shivalik Public School, Sector 41, defeated New Public School, Sector 18, by 76 runs. In other matches in the same section, Satluj Public School, Panchkula, defeated St Peter's School, Sector 38, by 1 run and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 32, beat Little Flower School, Panchkula, by 4 wickets.

Pool tournament
Sunil outplayed Pramod 3-2 in the junior section of the second Chandigarh State Pool Tournament in Sector 37. In other matches, Anil beat Gaurav Uppal 3-1, Ankur Nanda defeated Abhishek 3-2, Charukh defeated Bikramjeet Singh 3-2 and Pushpinder Singh beat Rajat 3-1. In the senior section, Parmod Kumar defeated Pradeep Kinger 4-0 and Manav Dhawan beat Jugal 4-0.

Judo championship
Heena Verma and Jaskirat Rai bagged gold in the below 23 kg and above 44 kg sections, respectively, in the UT State Sub-Junior Judo Championship at Ajit Karam Singh International Public School, Sector 41. The meet is being organised by the Amateur Judo Association of Chandigarh.

Advisory Council members

CHANDIGARH, Oct 9 — The Chairpersons of the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti, will be ex-officio members of the Administrator’s Advisory Council, an order of the Chandigarh Administration says.

The Joint Secretary, Finance, Mr K.A.P. Sinha, has been handed over additional charge of Municipal Commissioner as Mr M.P. Singh is on leave, while Mr Prthi Chand, SDM( Central) has been made Joint Director, Institutional Finance and Banking, in addition to his present duties.

Auction of quarries put off

SAS NAGAR, Oct 9 — The auction of minor mineral quarries in Ropar and Patiala districts, which was scheduled to be held tomorrow in the office of the Mining Officer of the Department of Industries, Punjab, has been postponed in view of the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, said the state geologist in a press release issued here today.
