Bihar bandh
PATNA, Sept 23 (PTI) — One person was killed and several others were injured as violence flared up in Muzaffarpur during the dawn-to-dusk, Bihar bandh called by CPI-ML (Liberation) today which evoked mixed response in the state. The police fired a few rounds to disperse a rampaging mob of CPI-ML activists in Muzaffarpur in which a party supporter, Kishore Sahni, was killed and several others injured, state Home Secretary U.N. Panjiar told PTI.

3 militants killed
GUWAHATI, Sept 23 (PTI) — Three National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants, including a woman, and an Army personnel were killed and two others injured in an encounter with the Army today in lower Assam’s Nalbari district, defence sources said here.

Black day
NEW DELHI, Sept 23 (PTI) — The National Action Committee of Telecom Organisation against Corporatisation will observe September 29 as black day in protest against the move to corporatise the Department of Telecom Services (DTS). The black day will be preceded by an agitation from September 26-28, a statement by the committee said.

Bazaar gutted
GUWAHATI, Sept 23 (UNI) — A devastating fire gutted a major portion of the busy Fancy Bazaar area of the city today damaging property worth Rs 1 crore. There were no reports of any casualties. The fire was noticed early in the morning. It was brought under control after dozen fire engines were pressed into service.
