GSA gesture to animals
From Our Sports Reporter

LUDHIANA, Sept 15 — In a significant development, the Grewal Sports Association (GSA) has resolved that in future all events which involve the violation of the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty Act will not be allowed in the Rural Olympics scheduled to be held in February, 2001 at Kila Raipur.

The resolution was passed at a meeting on September 10 presided over by Mr S.S. Grewal, president. Mr Grewal in a press release said the GSA was fully responsible for implementing the rules and for conducting all events during the festival in the manner permitted by law.

The GSA took this action because of reports published in various newspapers regarding cruelty towards animals in certain events. Mr Grewal had a detailed meeting with the president, People For Animals (PFA) before passing the said resolution. He on the behalf of the GSA invited observes from the PFA to “Rural Olympics” to guide them. He requested the PFA to put up a stall to educate the rural people about the activities of the PFA and cruelty towards animal. Mr Grewal promised to give free space for the stall.
