From Our Correspondent

LUDHIANA, Sept 8 — Bhawna Sachdeva, a Class XI student of St Bawra Public High School, has stood second in India and first in Punjab in a stamp design competition at the junior level organised by the Department of Posts at the Ludhiana Philatelic Bureau. She has been awarded a cash prize of Rs 3,000 along with a letter of commendation.

The contestants were told to make a design on the theme ''pollution''. Bhawna told that she had painted a sparrow sitting on a tree being cut. The sparrow was crying as her nest was being destroyed. The sparrow was screeming, ‘‘Don’t cut trees, otherwise you will weep like me.’’

The competition was held in September last year, but the award was given recently.
