Sub-judge dismissed

SRINAGAR, Aug 31 (UNI) — The Jammu and Kashmir Government has dismissed a sub-judge from service following an inquiry which found him guilty of numerous charges.

The charges on which Mr V.K. Atri, sub-judge, Leh, was found guilty included misappropriation of a portion of the fine imposed by him, conducting himself in the manner unbecoming of a judge and remaining away from duty in violation of leave rules and breach of judicial discipline as sub-judge, Leh, an official spokesman said.

A full Bench of the Jammu and Kashmir high court after considering his indictment by the inquiry found Mr Atri guilty of the charges and recommended to the Governor to impose penalty of removal from service under Rule 30 (VII) of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil (classification, control and appeal) Rules 1965, the spokesman said.

The Governor accepted the recommendations of the high court and ordered removal of Mr Atri, the then sub-judge (CJM), Leh, currently suspended, from service with immediate effect, he added.

JAMMU, Aug 31 — The pre-Partition era’s memory will be relived when Sajjad Ahmed Lone, son of senior Hurriyat Conference leader Abdul Gani Lone, ties the nuptial knot with the daughter of the JKLF supremo, Mr Amanullah Khan.

Before the Partition of India, Gilgit was part of the undivided Jammu and Kashmir. Mr Amanullah Khan belongs to Gilgit. Prior to that a number of Kashmiris would marry women from Gilgit. The Partition severed ties between the people of Jammu and Kashmir and those living in Gilgit.

Now a Kashmiri has revived the memory of those days by deciding to marry a girl belonging to Gilgit. Though Mr Amanullah Khan’s daughter has not seen much of her homeland, for all practical purposes he is the citizen of Gilgit.

Mr Amanullah Khan has been in the limelight for the past over two decades with his one-point agenda of securing independence for undivided Jammu and Kashmir. This has brought him into conflict with successive governments in Islamabad and Muzaffarabad.

In the Kashmir valley, the JKLF chief, Mohamad Yasin Malik, is a staunch opponent of Mr Amanullah Khan and being a member of the Hurriyat Conference, the former has been close to Mr Abdul Gani Lone. Both of them are votaries for Kashmir’s “azadi” and in the recent elections for the post of Chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, Mr Malik had voted for Mr Lone who lost to Prof Abdul Gani Bhat.

Reports said that Sajjad had started business in Delhi. Following differences with his partners, he shifted to Dubai. From Dubai he visited Pakistan where he met Mr Amanullah Khan’s daughter.

Mrs Abdul Gani Lone has already left for Pakistan for the engagement ceremony. Mr Abdul Gani Lone could not travel to Pakistan since his passport has been impounded by the Government of India.
