PAU introduces IT course LUDHIANA The course also aims to train graduates and postgraduates according to the market needs. After finishing the course, students will be able to use computers in their fields of specialisation. They will also become independent enough to venture in the field of information technology. Dr H.S. Sekhon, Dean College of Agriculture Engineering, said 15 students would join this course. He also said girls had shown tremendous interest in the course and half of the seats belonged to them. The admissions were on the basis of an aptitude test and final-year college marks. A special computer laboratory has been established for this course. Intensive practical training will also be an integral part of it. The course has been introduced due to the efforts of the EU-India Cross Cultural Innovation Network. European experts would conduct the classes. |
PAUTA team returns
for third time LUDHIANA, Aug 23 — Dr Hari Singh Brar defeated his rival Dr R. S. Brar by 457 votes for the post of President in PAUTA election. He and his team made a clean sweep of the elections. It is for the third consecutive year that his group has maintained control over PAUTA. Dr A. S. Joshi was elected Vice-President by defeating Dr K.N. Sharma by 422 votes. For the post of general secretary, Dr M.L. Gupta defeated a former president, Dr R. K. Batra, with a margin of 350 votes.Dr Batra was the PAUTA President for seven long years, but this time, he polled only 328 votes against 678 votes polled by Dr Gupta. For the post of Joint Secretary, Dr Ramesh Kumar, won by a margin of 413 votes, defeating his rival, Dr B. S. Bhullar and Dr S.K. Singla was elected for the post of Treasurer by defeating Dr J. L. Singla with a margin of 428 votes. The councillors elected include Dr K. S. Sandhu, Dr J. K. Sangha, Dr Manjit Singh, Dr A. S. Sohi, Dr R. S. Sahota and Dr Jaskaran Singh (unopposed) .The out-station candidates for the same post include Mr H S Kingra ( Extension South) ,Dr Karnail Singh ( Research North), Dr Anupam Singh and Dr B D Sharma(unopposed). Dr Hari Singh Brar said he owed his success to his team’s efforts. Listing a few achievements of his group, Dr Brar said ‘’Negotiation will be his first approach and confrontation, the last.” He further added that he would try to come up to the expectations of the teacher community. He assured that their actions will be pro-faculty. |

beautician LUDHIANA Mr Thakkar disclosed, that he was quite fascinated with his first visit to the industrial city. He said, “I express my gratitude to the organisers for giving me this opportunity. The people today are beauty conscious and I am here to provide the latest techniques to the Ludhianvis. I hope they will get something out of it”. Painting exhibition in Sobha Singh’s memory LUDHIANA, Aug 23 — An inter-class painting competition and exhibition was held yesterday in memory of Sobha Singh at the Government College for Women. More than 80 students from various classes took part in the competition.The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr Harbir Singh Bhanwar, a relative of Sobha Singh. The exhibition was conducted by Mr Daljeet Jassal, President, Sobha Singh Arts Society. He said the society had been organising these exhibitions in memory of Sobha Singh every year. All the paintings were made by the students of the GCW. Different themes were given to students, including the still and moving themes. A painting depicted the calmness on the face of Guru Nanak Dev. A girl had painted the village scene of Sobha Singh. The painting of a beautiful bride, ignorant of her future, was much appreciated by the public. There was a creative mixture of traditional and modern art. The worries on the face of an old woman were very well displayed by a student. Some of the students had displayed typical Indian art with Lord Krishna, Radha and gopies. In the still life competition, Mani, Shikha Jain and Sapna Puri were declared first, second and third, respectively, while the consolation prize was given to Supreet. In the landscaping, Ritu Bala, Gurpreet Kaur and Shikha Periwal were adjudged first, second and third, respectively. Neeru, Vagisha and Ruchi and Montina Bhogal were declared first second and third in composition. In the portrait category, Jyoti Chawla and Surjeet Kaur were declared first and second and the consolation prize went to Sonia. The judges for the competition were Mr Kulwant Singh, Ms Gurminder Kaur and Ms Mandeep Kaur. Those present on the occasion included Ms Inderjit Kaur Gill, Principal, GCW, and Mr Gurcharan Singh, Head of the Fine Arts Department at the GCW. |
