Painting competition for children

LUDHIANA, Aug 21 — The District Child Welfare Council organised an inter-school on-the-spot painting competition in RS Model Senior Secondary School here today. More than 200 students of 27 schools took part in the contest.

There were five groups in the competition. Green group comprised children in the age-group of 5 to 8, white group had children in the age group of 9 to 11 and blue group included children in the age-group of 13 to 16. There were two special groups for physically and mentally challenged kids — yellow group with children in the age-group of 5 to 10 and red group with children in the age-group of 11 to 18.

Children of green group were free to draw anything, while white group painted a picnic scene. Blue group was told to paint sunrise, while the theme for yellow group was Park Near My House. Red group could paint any of the two — My Friend (Pets or Birds) and Children at Work.

Those who stood first were Gurleen Kaur (green group) of Guru Nanak Public School, Arun Kumar (white group) of DAV Public School, Nidhi Ahuja (blue group) of RS Model School, Gurpreet Singh (yellow group) of the School for Deaf Children, and Sukhwinder Singh (red group) of the same school.

The judges were Mr Jaspreet Mohan, lecturer of commercial arts in Governement Girls Senior Secondary School, Mr Boota Singh, an art teacher in Government School at Baddowal, and Mr Bhullar, a fine-arts teacher in DAV Public School.

On this occasion, the Assistant Commissioner General, Mr Harshinder Singh, was the chief guest. He gave away prizes to the winners. Ms Usha Sidhu, District Education Officer, said colours could convey the feelings of children to all. Mr Bachitar Singh, Deputy DEO, Mr S.P. Malik of the Child Welfare Council and Mr Kalra, Principal of RS Model School, were also present on the occasion.

Similar competitions will be held in various districts of Punjab. Top three winners of each of the five groups in today’s competition will participate in another contest at Ropar in September.
