Sale of lotteries suspended in UT

CHANDIGARH, Aug 10 — The Chandigarh Administration may suspend the sale of lotteries. The suspension orders would also cover the state lotteries, including Punjab, who are otherwise authorised to sell their tickets here.

151 file nominations on last day
SAS NAGAR, Aug 10 — As many as 151 candidates today filed their nominations on the last day of filing nominations for the forthcoming elections to the SAS Nagar Municipal Council. In the past three days 64 candidates had filed the nominations taking the total number of candidates to 220.

Checking drive following Srinagar blast
CHANDIGARH, Aug 10 — The police carried out a special checking drive in the city today in view of the bomb blast in Srinagar. The drive was carried out by the staff of the respective police stations from 6 p.m. onwards.

  Cyber ‘file tracking’ plan for Estate Office
CHANDIGARH, Aug 10 — In future residents wanting to get property-related work done in the Estate Office will not have to run around babus of the office. The authorities are about to start a scheme under which a ‘’ file tracking’’ system will be put in place through computers while the applicant will be given a date-bound coupon indicating a tentative date for the completion of his work.

New pest control method developed
CHANDIGARH, Aug 10 — Scientists of Panjab University have found an effective way for controlling the damage caused by pests to stored grains. They have come out with a biological method of control for dhora, a beetle attacking a number of edible pulses and grains.

Inquiry sought into sewerage project
CHANDIGARH, Aug 10 —The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha has demanded inquiry by an independent agency into the non-completion of sewerage gas project at the sewerage treatment plant in Sector 66, SAS Nagar, near here.

nne Frank got a diary on her 13th birthday. Soon after that, her family had to go in hiding to escape Gestapo. She has recorded the horrors perpetuated on the Jewish race in her diary. Her last entry was made on August 1 and on August 4, she was taken to a concentration camp. Nobody knows what happened to her in the next seven months. She perished in a concentration camp.

Textbook sales depot stone laid
SAS NAGAR, Aug 10 — The State Education Minister, Mr Tota Singh, laid the foundation stone of a textbook sales depot cum-sub office at Giani Zail Singh Nagar in Ropar near here today. Mr Tara Singh Ladal, Minister of State for Education, was also present on the occasion.

CHANDIGARH, Aug 10 — Mr Satpal Goyal, father of Mr Sanjeev Goyal, Computer Engineer in the Tribune group of newspapers, died of a heart attack at Sunam on August 1. He is survived by his wife and four sons.

HC dismisses Punwire appeal
CHANDIGARH, Aug 10 — A Division Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today dismissed the appeal filed by Punjab Wireless Systems Ltd, Mohali (Punwire) for setting aside the order passed by the Company Judge of the high court dated July 27,2000, vide which the Judge had appointed provisional liquidator to take over the assets of the company.
