Children given free uniforms

PANCHKULA, May 31 — Over 100 children attending the Street Working Children Project were distributed free uniforms by the City Magistrate, Mr SC Sharma, at a function held at Bhainsa Tibba village here yesterday.

The programme, organised by the District Council for Child Welfare, had held an art and craft workshop for the children during which the Deputy Commissioner, Mr SK Monga, had promised free uniforms to the children.

Also, during the workshop a free medical camp by doctors of the General Hospital in Sector 6 had been organised for these children belonging to the Atal Behari Vajpayee colony.

Workshop on population

CHANDIGARH, May 31—A northern region intersectoral review of IEC and advocacy material on population and development education was organised at the ICSSR complex, Panjab University, here today.

The Director of the Regional Resource Centre for Adult Education, Dr Ajaib Singh, stated that inter-sectoral coordination was an important component of the present phase of project population and development education. Mr SC Gupta from the Directorate of Adult Education, New Delhi, stated that the workshop would facilitate intersectoral coordination to use the materials already available.

Dr Saroj Yadav, Reader, NCERT, spelt out in detail the different types of material published by the NCERT.

High Court schedule

CHANDIGARH, May 31— Mr Justice G.S. Singhvi and Mr Justice Nirmal Singh of the Punjab and Haryana High Court here will sit in a Division Bench during the vacations from June 6 to June 9. Mr Justice Amarbir Singh Gill and Mr Justice N.C. Khichi will, meanwhile, sit in single Benches.

During the second week, from June 12 to June 16, Mr Justice V.K. Bali and Mr Justice K.S. Garewal will sit in a Division Bench, while Mr Justice R.C. Kathuria and Mr Justice K.C. Gupta will sit in single Benches.

According to a circular issued on behalf of Chief Justice of High Court, Mr Justice A.B. Saharya, by the Joint Director, Mr S.S. Narang, there would be no sitting for two weeks from June 17 to June 30.

During the “no work period”, “the judges nominated for the period and in their absence the senior most vacation judges at station will entertain urgent petitions, including habeas corpus and anticipatory bail pleas”.Back

Summer workshop for kids in Press Club

CHANDIGARH, May 31 — The Chandigarh Press Club in association with Besten Foundation is organising a two-week-long summer workshop for the children of its members from June 15, 2000, to June 29, 2000 in the disciplines of theatre, dance and choreography, art and craft and soft toy making.

School-going children above six will be allowed to attend the activities. Each child can opt for only one activity at a time.

Members who are interested to send their children for the workshop should give their names/addresses in the club office by June 10, 2000.Back
