CBI to probe match-fixing
NEW DELHI, April 28 — The Centre today decided to entrust the issue of match-fixing in Indian cricket to the Central Bureau of Investigation while allowing the Delhi police to carry on the probe in the case against former South African skipper Hansie Cronje and others.

CHANDIGARH, April 28 — Issuing notice to Shiromani gurdawra Parbandhak Committee chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police Iqbal Singh and four others for May 15 on a petition by Harpreet Kaur’s “husband”, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked them to “show cause as to why the matter should not be entrusted to the CBI for investigation when the high-ups in the state holding power were said to be involved in suppressing the truth”.

NEW DELHI, April 28 — The 12th session of the Indo-China Joint Working Group on the boundary question began here today with delegations of the two countries reviewing recent developments in the bilateral relations and exchanging ideas on the situation in the region.

One killed in ammunition depot fire
BHARATPUR, April 28 — A major fire today broke out in an Army ammunition depot here storing heavy calibre shells and other explosives killing one person and warranting evacuation of people within a 10 km radius of the town noted for its bird sanctuary.

ALMORA (UP), April 28 — Fortyfive persons were killed and 15 injured when a bus, carrying a marriage party, fell into a 250-metre-deep gorge on the Ramnagar-Shashikhal road, about 140 km from here, the police here said today.

SP booked in bribery case
PATHANKOT, April 28 — The police here has registered a case against Mr Mohinder Singh, Superintendent of Police, for demanding gratification from Mr Tarsem Lal, ASI, posted at CIA Staff here under Section 13 to the Prevention of Corruption Act, and Sections 165, 201, 467, 468, 471, 506 and 120-B of the IPC.


Ashram head booked for rape
SRIGANGANAGAR, April 28 — Swami Anantananda, head of Vivek Ashram, a social organisation running a school for the deaf and dumb, has been booked under Section 376, IPC, allegedly for raping an inmate of the Ashram.
