Work on dispensary to
begin soon PANCHKULA, April 20 While three projects undertaken by the Haryana Urban Development Authority are nearing completion, work to build a dispensary in Sector 21 will get underway soon. In Nirjhar Vatika in Sector 5, a restaurant to house a fast food joint is coming up, while another already exists on the premises. Situated opposite the fountains, it is being built at a cost of Rs 80.15 lakh in an area of 3239 sq m. The building has a total of 10 rooms. The Administrator, HUDA, Mr Abhilaksh Likhi, said that an advertisement for the same will be out soon and the building will be handed over to a fast-food joint on completion. Already the office has received over 40 applications from parties interested in opening an outlet in the township and most of these have come from those owning a chain of fast-food joints in the metros. Once the building is taken over by a private party, it will have free play to develop it according to its taste and create an ambience of its own. The place overlooking the fountains in the park has an artificial waterfall, besides manicured lawns and colourful flower beds. A 14-room dispensary in Sector 4 is also complete and has been built at a cost of Rs 23 lakh. This will be handed over to the Health department very soon. Besides, the demand of a school in Sector 15 by the residents has also been met and the building is almost ready. Constructed at a cost of Rs 23.57 lakh, the primary school has nine rooms. Once these projects are
through, HUDA will begin construction of a dispensary in
Sector 21 at an estimated cost of Rs 23 lakh on the same
lines. |
SAI selects Bindra CHANDIGARH, April 20 Abhinav Bindra, an international shooter of the city, added another feather into his cap when the Sports Authority of India selected him to undergo a mental and pressure management course at the Lanny Bassham Mental Management Institute in Dallas Ft. Worth, Texas, USA, from July 2 to 12 this year. The institute teaches skills and techniques to deal with the immense pressure which a shooter faces. Abhinav thanked the SAI for finding him suitable for this course and he promised to give best for the country. He also said the SAI had looked after talented sportspersons well. He also said the course of this kind had applications in every walk of life. Abhinav who recently took his Class XII examinations as a student of St Stephen's School, Sector 45, went straight to attend trials for the national team and a camp in Delhi. This is prior to his departure on May 1 on a European tour along with 12 other Indian shooters. They will visit various countries like Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Italy, Germany and Holland. These shooters will take
part in the World Cup as a pre-Olympic competition. The
45-day tour has been sponsored by the Government of
India. Abhinav, Anjali Ved Pathak and Jaspal Rana are the
top Indian shooters for whom the Government of India has
sought wild cards for the Sydney Olympics. On the present
tour, a Hungarian coach will traven with the shooters. He
is already providing training to Indian shooters in
Delhi. |
STC
trainees in Indian team CHANDIGARH, April 20 Nishu Chauhan and Asrita Toppo, both hockey trainees at the Sports Authority of India STC in Sector 18, have found place in the 22-member Indian junior women's hockey team probables. Out of these players, further shortlisting will be done to form an 18-member team for the third Asia Cup Junior Women's Hockey Tournament (under-21) to be held at Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) from May 6 to 13. As per an information received here, Nishi Chauhan, a first-year arts student of the Sector 36 MCM DAV College for Women, has already worn India colours as part of the senior team. She had joined the Sector 18 STC in 1996. Asrita, who hails from Orissa and is taking her Class XII lessons through correspondence, had joined this centre in 1998. She has had many achievements so far. Another former STC trainee, Mamta Kharab, was at the center from 1996 to 1999. She was the captain of the winning Indian team at the World Cup Junior Hockey Meet in New Jersey (USA) past year. Mamta had joined Western Railways last September on the basis of her splendid performance. Camp coordinator: Mr Rakesh Bakshi, Secretary of the Chandigarh Football Association, has been made the coordinator of the under-19 football camp (North Zone) of the All-India Football Federation to be held at Patiala from April 23 to 27, as per an information received from the AIFF. The five-days camp will have selection trials conducted by I.P. Nagi, the SAI football coach. In all, 20 boys of Punjab, Haryana and other neighbouring states of this region will participate in the camp. The selected boys will
be sent to Bangalore for a coaching camp to be held from
May 1 to 21. The list of players for the camp includes
Harish Kumar, Saurabh and Narender Awasthy (all CFA),
Ishfaq Ahmed, Ramesh Kumar, Mahrajuddin Wadon and Adil
Qadir (all Jammu and Kashmir FA), Ravinder Kumar and Love
Kishore (both HPFA), Kagedodum (SAI Rohru), Kuldip Singh,
Parminder Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Boy Singh and Karnail
Singh (all PFA), Amit Kumar, Mohit Kumar, Satish Kumar
and Jagdeep Dhillon (all HFA). |
Dharna by Haryana diploma
engineers PANCHKULA, April 20 Members of the Diploma Engineers Association of haryana staged a dharna near the judicial complex in Sector 1 here today in protest against the uncalled for harassment of the Junior Engineers of the PWD Public Health and the Irrigation department. In a letter to Mr RS Verma, Chief Secretary, the association has stated that over 25 FIRs had been registered at Bhiwani, Rohtak, Hissar and Narwana on the recommendation of the Chief Ministers flying squad and by the State Vigilance Bureau on the basis of a result sample regarding earth work done during July 1996. In the letter, the Zonal secretary, Mr RS Kundu, said any discrepancy or imperfection can be rectified from the executing agency and action initiated by the department concerned in accordance with rules. The registration of FIRs had no justification, it added. Also, at a meeting of JEs on March 25, it was decided to save members from the humiliation and torture at the hands of the police department and departmental action should be initiated against those at fault, it stated. They further demanded that the cases be withdrawn at the earliest so that the development works in the state do not suffer. Attached with the letter
is a charter of demands of the junior engineers which
states the grant of a functional scale of rs 6500-10500,
abolition of the department examination in the irrigation
branch, raising of promotional quota from 43 per cent to
50 per cent, among others. |
House-listing
for census from May 3 SAS NAGAR, April 20 House-listing operations in connection with census 2001 will start on May 3. The SDM, Mr O.P. Popli, said today that staff to be put on census duty were being given training for the purpose. An Assistant Director from the Census Directorate, Government of India, had come to give guidance and directions to the field staff. Rehearsal was being done in two shifts. In the forenoon shift, staff who would cover the rural areas were being given training while those in the second shift would be on duty in the urban areas. Mr Popli said the town
had been divided into 175 census blocks. There were 145
blocks for the rural areas. Each block would have
enumerator and for six enumerators, there would be one
supervisor. |
