Cronje in match-fixing racket
3 more named; Delhi bookie held;
Interpol help to be sought
NEW DELHI, April 7 — The cricketing world was today overtaken by a storm after the Delhi Police charged South African cricket captain Hansie Cronje and three other players with fixing matches during last month’s Pepsi one-day series against India in return for huge financial gains. Cronje along with opener Herschelle Gibbs, left-arm spinner Nicky Boje and medium pacer Pieter Strydom have been charged with cheating, fraud and criminal conspiracy for throwing matches by taking huge money from two Indian bookies, one of whom Rajesh Kalra was arrested by the crime branch of the Delhi Police last night.

3 more bodies exhumed
CHOWGAM (Anantnag), April 7 — With the exhumation of three more bodies in this South Kashmir hamlet today, the process of exhumation of five bodies of those killed in Panchalthan-Pathribal “encounter” two weeks ago was completed this evening.

LPG to fuel new era
NEW DELHI, April 7 — From being gas spewing to gas driven, the Indian automobile industry is all set for a revolution of sorts. The Union Cabinet’s decision to allow the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, commonly known as cooking gas, as auto fuel would enable vehicle owners to drive with cleaner, cheaper and safe alternate fuel.

PATNA, April 7 — The 12-hour Bihar bandh called by the NDA to press for resignation of the chargesheeted Chief Minister Rabri Devi today partially hit normal life as former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was among 1,000 persons taken into custody as they attempted to enforce the shutdown.

Shahbaz, 3 others shifted to Rawalpindi
ISLAMABAD, April 7 — Convicted former Pakistani Premier Nawaz Sharif’s brother and three others, acquitted in the plane conspiracy case, were today produced before the Accountability Court in Rawalpindi.

Gurdwara panel summons Bibi
AMRITSAR, March 7 — The Sikh Gurdwara Judicial Commission has sent summons to Bibi Jagir Kaur, SGPC chief, and her personal assistant Harjit Singh, in connection with 489 appointments in alleged violation of service rules of the SGPC.
