Clintons
revised schedule
WASHINGTON, Feb 23 (PTI) US President Bill
Clinton, who is to visit India from March 20, would
arrive on March 19, fly to Bangladesh the next day and
return the same day to begin his state visit, the
Washington Times reported quoting a senior US official.
During his trip to Bangladesh, Mr Clinton hopes to visit
some rural development projects of non-governmental
organisations like Grameen Bank and the Bangladesh Rural
Advancement Committee, which have used novel techniques
to become entrepreneurs, it said. The President is
expected to spend five days in different parts of India,
the official said.
Minister revolts
LUCKNOW, Feb 23 (PTI) Mr Prem Parkash Singh, a
minister belonging to a constituent of the BJP-led
government in Uttar Pradesh, today raised the banner of
revolt against the Chief Minister, Mr Ram Prakash Gupta,
demanding his immediate removal as he was
incompetent. It will be in the best
interest of the BJP if the Chief Minister is removed at
the earliest as he is incompetent and the government
under him totally inactive and ineffective, Mr Prem
Parkash Singh, belonging to the Jantantrik BSP, told
reporters here.

suspended
GANDHINAGAR, Feb 23 (PTI) The confrontation
between the BJP and the Congress in Gujarat sharpened
today with the suspension of all but one of the 46
Congress members from state Assembly for throwing RSS
uniform at Governor Sunder Singh Bhandari during his
address on the opening day of the Budget session. Angry
Congress members led by CLP leader Amarsinh Chowdhary
staged a walkout protesting the suspension for varying
period ranging from three days to a week and told
reporters later that his party would table a motion
demanding removal of Speaker Dhirubhai Shah.
Prasar Bharati

NEW DELHI, Feb 23 (UNI) The government today asked
the three-member committee, set up to review the
structure of Prasar Bharati and recommend changes to make
the functioning of Doordarshan and All-India Radio more
professional, to submit its report within two months. The
committee, which had initially been given a three-month
period that expired today, has been given additional time
to submit its report as it has not yet completed its
work, according to sources in the Information and
Broadcasting Ministry.
