Miraculous
escape for Sangma
IMPHAL, Feb 10 (PTI) Nationalist Congress Party
General Secretary P.A. Sangma today said that he and his
wife had a miraculous escape when their rest house was
attacked by Assam Rifles personnel at Moreh
in Manipurs Chandel district on Tuesday night. He
said he and his wife did not stay at the room booked
earlier and had they stayed there they would have been
killed. His guards were reportedly mistaken as militants.
CJs appointed
NEW DELHI, Feb 10 (PTI) Mr Justice Bhagavati
Prasad Saraf of the Bombay High Court was today appointed
Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, a
Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said. He would replace
Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Bhawani Singh,
who would take charge as the Chief Justice of the Madhya
Pradesh High Court.

LONDON, Feb 10 (Reuters) Britains House of
Lords passed emergency legislation today allowing the
suspension of a fledgling power-sharing Assembly in
northern Ireland if the Irish Republican Army makes no
move to give up its weapons. The bill, rushed through
Parliament in three days, now requires the formality of
Royal assent from Queen Elizabeth. Thereafter, direct
rule from London could be reimposed.
