Plea: The Nagar Parishad Karamchari
Sanyukt Manch has demanded to adjust 4,500
employees of the Municipal Councils who were
engaged at octroi barriers in the state. The
demand was raised at a meeting of the sangh held
here on Sunday. The manch also demanded the
implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission
report.
Case registered: The local police has registered
a case against a liquor shop for allegedly
committing power theft. HVPN officials raided the
shop on Saturday and detected the theft.FATEHABAD
Pulse polio drive: Arrangements for the
pulse polio drive 1999-2000 in the district have
been completed, according to the Deputy
Commissioner, Mr V. Raja Sekhar. He said polio
drops would be administered on October 24,
November 21, December 19, and January 23. He said
438 pulse polio posts had been set up in the
district to administer the drops to 1.3 lakh
children in the district.
Library inaugurated: A Bal
Bhavan Children Library was inaugurated on Sunday
by Mr V. Raja Sekhar, Deputy Commissioner, at Bal
Bhavan. Inaugurating the library, he said it was
a unique concept where all books of the library
were kept on the racks. In the library more than
2,000 comics are displayed along with 500 general
knowledge books. Earlier, Mr Ishwar S. Assat gave
a demonstration of childrens encyclopedia
on a compact disc. The library was built at a
cost of Rs 7 lakh.

Paddy procurement: The state executive
committee of the Haryana Kisan Sabha at a meeting
here on Saturday expressed concern over problems
in the purchase of paddy by procurement agencies.
It alleged that farmers were being exploited by
officials of market committees, procurement
agencies and commission agents. The sabha urged
the Chief Minister to direct procurement agencies
to purchase paddy at the support price.

Camp: The Eagles Club organised a free
health check-up camp at Shah Hospital here on
Sunday. Mr Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, Chief
Parliamentary Secretary, Haryana, was the chief
guest and announced Rs 11,000 for the club from
his discretionary funds.

Inquiry ordered: The Deputy
Commissioner, Mrs Rajni Sekhri Sibal, has ordered
an inquiry into the allegations of
misappropriation of school funds by Mr Diwan
Singh, Principal of the local Swami Uma Bharati
Public Senior Secondary School. The allegations
were levelled in a complaint by Mr Rajesh
Vashistha, a teacher and member of the purchasing
committee of the school, to the DC on September
29.

Inauguration: The Additional Deputy
Commissioner, Ms Neerja Shekhar, inaugurated a
tailoring training centre at Sri Ravi Das Mandir.
On this occasion, 32 sewing machines were
distributed among the girls trained at J J
Colony.
SONEPAT
Murder: Jasbir was allegedly shot dead
at his house at Jauli village, 30 km from here,
on Saturday. According to preliminary reports,
Sumer, alias Popa, and Sheela entered the house
of Mr Om Parkash and one of them allegedly fired
on his handicapped son, Jasbir, killing him on
the spot. The police has registered a case of
murder and sent the body for the post-mortem
examination.
Aggarsen jayanti: A large number
of men and women belonging to the Jain community
participated in the 'prabhat pheri' organised by
the Aggarsen Seva Mandal here on Sunday in
connection with the celebrations of Aggarsen
Jayanti. It passed through the main bazaars of
the city and concluded at Jain Vidya Mandir, near
Subzi Mandi, the venue of the celebrations.
