BATHINDA
Threat:
The Punjab State Electricity Board Engineers Association has threatened to launch an agitation in protest against the non-acceptance of their demands. In a press note issued here on Saturday, Mr D.S. Bhullar, Regional Secretary, said the association had already served a notice on the management in this regard. He said the authorities were deliberately delaying the implementation of their demands.

GURDASPUR
Elected:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the local Lions Club (Royal): president — Mr Manoj Loomba; vice-presidents — Dr S.C. Sharad, Mr Ajay Kaushal and Mr Pranav Sharma; secretary — Mr Yogesh Bhandari; joint secretary — Mr Rakesh Ohri; and treasurer — Mr Gurcharan Singh.

JALANDHAR
Function:
The Army Wives Welfare Association of Vajra Corps organised a war widows meet somewhere in the western sector on Saturday. Mrs Madhu Davar, wife of Lieut-Gen K. Davar, GoC Vajra Corps, presided. As many as 150 widows of martyrs of 1965, 1971 wars and Operation Vijay attended the function. Dr Sushma Sood, a leading social worker of Jaipur, interacted with widows.

KHANNA
Three held:
The police has arrested three persons, Gurjant Singh, Tejinder Singh and Rolu, for their alleged involvement in the murder of Balbir Kaur, according to the SSP, Mr R.L. Bhagat. He said the complaint was registered on a complaint of her father.

TARN TARAN
Competition:
An inter-college poetic recitation and declamation competitions were organised on Friday at Mata Sahib Kaur Girls College, Fatehbad. As many as 50 students of different colleges participated in the competitions. Baba Inderjit Singh, president of the college managing committee, presided.

UDHAMPUR
Gold medallions:
On the eve of Navratras, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board launched gold and silver medallions for the pilgrims. These medallions are made of 24 carat gold (999.9 standard gold) and silver and available at Bhavan and Katra branch of J and K Bank Ltd. While gold medallions are available in denomination of 10 grams and 5 grams, the silver medallions are available in 20 grams and 10 grams denominations.

AMBALA
Plea:
The Nagar Parishad Karamchari Sanyukt Manch has demanded to adjust 4,500 employees of the Municipal Councils who were engaged at octroi barriers in the state. The demand was raised at a meeting of the sangh held here on Sunday. The manch also demanded the implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission report.
Case registered: The local police has registered a case against a liquor shop for allegedly committing power theft. HVPN officials raided the shop on Saturday and detected the theft.

FATEHABAD
Pulse polio drive:
Arrangements for the pulse polio drive 1999-2000 in the district have been completed, according to the Deputy Commissioner, Mr V. Raja Sekhar. He said polio drops would be administered on October 24, November 21, December 19, and January 23. He said 438 pulse polio posts had been set up in the district to administer the drops to 1.3 lakh children in the district.
Library inaugurated: A Bal Bhavan Children Library was inaugurated on Sunday by Mr V. Raja Sekhar, Deputy Commissioner, at Bal Bhavan. Inaugurating the library, he said it was a unique concept where all books of the library were kept on the racks. In the library more than 2,000 comics are displayed along with 500 general knowledge books. Earlier, Mr Ishwar S. Assat gave a demonstration of children’s encyclopedia on a compact disc. The library was built at a cost of Rs 7 lakh.

JIND
Paddy procurement:
The state executive committee of the Haryana Kisan Sabha at a meeting here on Saturday expressed concern over problems in the purchase of paddy by procurement agencies. It alleged that farmers were being exploited by officials of market committees, procurement agencies and commission agents. The sabha urged the Chief Minister to direct procurement agencies to purchase paddy at the support price.

KAITHAL
Camp:
The Eagles Club organised a free health check-up camp at Shah Hospital here on Sunday. Mr Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Haryana, was the chief guest and announced Rs 11,000 for the club from his discretionary funds.

REWARI
Inquiry ordered:
The Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Rajni Sekhri Sibal, has ordered an inquiry into the allegations of misappropriation of school funds by Mr Diwan Singh, Principal of the local Swami Uma Bharati Public Senior Secondary School. The allegations were levelled in a complaint by Mr Rajesh Vashistha, a teacher and member of the purchasing committee of the school, to the DC on September 29.

SIRSA
Inauguration:
The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ms Neerja Shekhar, inaugurated a tailoring training centre at Sri Ravi Das Mandir. On this occasion, 32 sewing machines were distributed among the girls trained at J J Colony.

SONEPAT
Murder:
Jasbir was allegedly shot dead at his house at Jauli village, 30 km from here, on Saturday. According to preliminary reports, Sumer, alias Popa, and Sheela entered the house of Mr Om Parkash and one of them allegedly fired on his handicapped son, Jasbir, killing him on the spot. The police has registered a case of murder and sent the body for the post-mortem examination.
Aggarsen jayanti: A large number of men and women belonging to the Jain community participated in the 'prabhat pheri' organised by the Aggarsen Seva Mandal here on Sunday in connection with the celebrations of Aggarsen Jayanti. It passed through the main bazaars of the city and concluded at Jain Vidya Mandir, near Subzi Mandi, the venue of the celebrations.

BILASPUR
Ban:
The Additional District Magistrate, Mr R.D. Panwar, has banned the carrying of all types of arms and ammunitions in the Kotkehloor police station area, around Naina Devi shrine, during 10-day Ashwin Navratras. A notification issued here on Saturday also banned the offering of halwa as parshad.
Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the district unit of the Himachal Pradesh Non-Gazetted Judicial Employees Welfare Association: president — Mr Baliram Verma; senior vice-president — Mr Hans Raj Thakur; vice-president — Mr Ashwini Kumar; general secretary — Mr Ravinder Singh Chandel; and treasurer — Mr Banwari Lal.

CHAMBA
Resentment:
Resentment prevails among residents of Surgani village, 40 km from here, against the failure of the police to arrest the culprits involved in the murder of Ganga Ram, a gorkha labourer. The residents have been demanding the arrest of the culprits.
Body found: A body was found on the river-bed of the Ravi, near Sitla Bridge, on Saturday. The police has registered a case. In another case, a woman Bago Devi, a resident of Sultanpur village, was found dead at her residence. The police has registered a case.

JAWALAMUKHI
Exhibition:
The Himachal Co-operative Minister, Mr Rikhi Ram Kaundal, inaugurated an exhibition-cum-sale of handloom and handicraft products organised by the HP State Handloom and Handicrafts Weavers Apex Cooperative Society Ltd, Kullu, at Hotel Jawalaji on Sunday. The exhibition will open till October 19.

PALAMPUR
Thefts: Three theft incidents were reported in the town on Saturday. Two incidents were reported near the main bus stand where the thieves took away gold ornaments purchased by a family for the marriage of their daughter. In another incident, goods worth Rs 50,000 were stolen from HP Housing Board Colony, Bindravan. Meanwhile, Mr Brij Butail, a local MLA, has expressed concern over the deteriorating law and situation in the town.

SHIMLA
Sood Sabha:
