Divali fete: The local Golden Public School organised a Divali fete on Sunday. According to Mr Dina Nath Mahajan, Principal, the proceeds from the fete would be spent for providing limbs free of cost to handicapped persons.

MALERKOTLA
Dental fortnight: The eighth dental health fortnight will be held in the civil hospital here from Tuesday. Dr Mohammad Shabbir, CMO, said during the fortnight, all types of dental treatments, including supply of dentures and medicines, would be provide free of cost.

MOGA
1 killed: One person was killed and three others were injured in an accident involving a truck and a tanker, on the Moga-Patiala road, 56 km from here, on Sunday.

Elected: Dr Romesh Lal Goyal and Mr K.L. Joshi were elected president and vice-president, respectively, of the Moga Rotary Club on Sunday.

NAWANSHAHR
Free medical camp: The Guru Nanak Mission, Medical and Educational Trust, Dhahan Kalera, organised a free medical camp at Government Middle School, Beerampur (Garhshankar), 15 km from here, on Sunday. Mrs Santosh Kaur Mann, an NRI, inaugurated the camp. More than 1,200 patients were examined and 60 operations, including 55 eye operations, were performed. Mrs Mann donated Rs 51,000 to the trust.

Medical practitioners: The general secretary of the Medical Practitioners Association, Punjab, Dr Ramesh Kumar Bali, in a press note issued here on Sunday, criticised the arrest of medical practitioners and their alleged harassment by police and jail officials. He said medical practitioners of the district would hold a protest rally on Tuesday.

PATHANKOT
Appointed: The Department of Local Government, Punjab, has appointed the following non-official members as trustees of the Improvement Trust, Pathankot, for a term of two years — Mr Chanan Singh, Mr Surinder Mahajan and Dr Kapil Dev.

Encroachments removed: Encroachments were removed in the Machhiwara town on Saturday, Mr Baldev Singh, SDM, said here on Sunday.

AMBALA
Talent show: A talent show was organised at S.A. Jain College by the NIIT, Ambala City centre on Sunday. The Deputy Commissioner inaugurated the show. The Principal, Mr C.L. Singla, highlighted the importance of information technology.

Haryana Day: Government Senior Secondary School, Ambala City, celebrated Haryana Day as plantation day. Girls of the NSS unit planted saplings in the school compound on the occasion. The Principal, Mrs Paramjit Sharma, asked the students to keep the surroundings clean.

HISAR
Young scientist award: The Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI) has selected Dr Ajay Kumar Goel of the Department of Microbiology, Haryana Agricultural University, for the AMI Young Scientist Award in recognition of his contribution to research in agricultural microbiology. The award will be presented to him at the 40th annual conference of the AMI to be held in Bhubaneswar from November 29.

KAITHAL
Crackers banned: The District Magistrate, Dr Mahaveer Singh, has banned the storage and use of crackers in the congested areas of Kaithal, Cheeka, Kalayat and Pundri towns of the district. The orders have been issued to safeguard life and property under Section 144 of the Cr P.C. The district administration has, however, identified some places in these towns for the sale of crackers. The orders will remain in force till November 10, according to a press note.

HUDA Association: Residents of the local HUDA Colony organised a meeting here on Sunday and constituted an association in which the following were nominated members of the Executive Committee: Mr Dalip Singh Sethi, Mr Gulshan Chug, Mr M.G. Sabarwal, Mr Manoharlal Pinder, Mr Ramesh Sharma, Mr Khetaram, Mr Surinder Kumar, Mr Krishan Gupta, Mr Gurdev Virk and Mr Harish Sethi.

Injured: Amar Singh of Nathusari Chopta village in the district was seriously injured when his motor cycle collided head on with a jeep near the village.

Succumbed: Newly married Sunita of Gobindpur, near here, succumbed to her burn injuries at the local civil hospital on Sunday. According to sources, she had set herself afire on October 26. The cause of the suicide was stated to be a domestic dispute.

Pay scales: The Village Secretaries Welfare Association of the Panchayat Development Department, (PDD), Haryana, has demanded that the pay scales of Gram Secretaries should be revised. A charter of demands was handed over to the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala,. The president of the association, Mr Rajinder Singh, said the Director, PDD, had already recommended that the pay scale of Rs 4,500-7,000 be given to them and the Finance Department had also sent this proposal to the High Power Committee for its recommendation.

Run over: Jas Pal Singh of Tarkanwali village, near here, was run over by a truck near the village on Sunday.

SONEPAT
Held: The Sadar police arrested Mohinder Singh of Mahra village for allegedly being found in possession of a country-made pistol on Sunday. A case under the Indian Arms Act has been registered.

Cultural programme: A cultural programme was organised in the Deepavali milan samaroh here on Monday on the occasion of Haryana Day. A large crowd witnessed the programme.

Case registered: The Gohana police has registered a case of rash and negligent driving against a truck driver, who was involved in an accident with the pilot van of the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, on Sunday.

Urged: The Haryana Ad hoc Teachers Sangh on Monday sent a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, demanding the immediate regularisation of all teachers appointed on an ad hoc basis in government schools.

Body recovered: The Kharkhauda police recovered the body of a youth, Dinesh, from a well in a forest at Khanda village, 25 km from here, on Sunday.

YAMUNANAGAR
Head-on collision: One person was killed and four others were injured in a collision between a bus, truck and a tonga on the Ambala-Jagadhri highway, near here, on Sunday. According to information received here, a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking bus, which was on its way to Chandigarh, collided head on with a truck and a tonga resulting in the death of Resham Singh of Ambala.

Operation camp: A two-day free operation camp for polio patients was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Rajeev Sharma, at the local Goel Hospital. The camp was organised by the Lions Club, Yamunanagar-Jagadhri, and the District Red Cross Society. As many as 104 operations were conducted by a team of doctors from the PGI, Rohtak.top

HAMIRPUR
Sentenced: Mr J S Mahantan, Chief Judicial Magistrate, has sentenced Chhotu Ram of the Baru area of the town, to six months' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 for selling adulterated milk. The District Health Officer said this here on Sunday.

Small Savings Scheme: Under the Small Savings Scheme, as many as 15,270 new long-term deposit accounts were opened in the district till September 30, this year. This was stated here on Sunday by Mr Nirmal Singh Suman, Additional District Magistrate. He said Rs 550 crore had been deposited with various banks and post offices under various schemes.

MANDI
Arrested: The police arrested Dharmender at Gumanu village, near here, on Sunday for allegedly murdering his nephew Mohan . A case under Section 302 of the IPC and Sections 25 and 27 of the Indian Arms Act has been registered.

SHIMLA
Quiz competition: Piyush Thukral stood first in the quiz competition on information technology, which was organised by Computer Department of Himachal Pradesh University here on Saturday. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Mr S K Sharda, presented the trophy to him.

Associate Director: Dr S.D. Badiyala, Associate Director, Regional Horticulture Research Station, Jacch (Kangra), affiliated to Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry has joined as Associate Director of the institution's upcoming research station at Bhota in Hamirpur district. Dr Badiyala is a specialist in sub-tropical fruits with 27 years of experience in teaching and research.
