Discovery docks with ISS
HOUSTON, Texas, May 29 (AFP) — The US space shuttle Discovery succeeded today in making its first orbital linkup with the international space station (ISS), said the National Aeronautics and Space Administration here. Discovery docked with ISS at 11:24 p.m. local time yesterday (0424 GMT today), deploying two tunnels that will allow the seven-member crew to move freely between the two spacecraft while they are joined for the next six days. The linkup went without a hitch with Rominger overseeing the delicate manoeuvre.

Border area rocked
NEW DELHI, May 29 (PTI) — An earthquake of slight intensity rocked the India-China border region today, meteorological department said here. The quake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale occurred at 1133 hrs (IST), a Met release said. The epicentre of the tremor was 35.9 degree north latitude and 77.6 degree east longitude.

Suicide bomber
COLOMBO, May 29 (PTI) — A prominent pro-government Tamil armed group leader and two others were killed today in a LTTE suicide bomb attack in eastern Batticaloa. Rasik, alias P. Gannesakumar, a self-styled commander of a 40-member well-armed anti-LTTE group, and his bodyguard were killed when a cycle-borne suicide bomber fatally blew himself in front of him at a garage in Batticaloa, the police said.
