Taken charge:
Mrs Veen Watni took charge as Principal of R.R Bawa DAV College for Girls here on Saturday in place of Mrs Junesh Kackria. Mrs Watni was previously working as the Head of the Department of Physics at HMV College, Jalandhar.

MALERKOTLA
Appointed:
Mr K.K Mehta, Principal of the local DAV Senior Secondary School, has been appointed Vice-President of the Indian Council for Environmental Education.

Yoga camp: A week-long yoga camp organised by the local DAV Senior Secondary School on its premises concluded on Saturday. Yogacharya Luxmi Chand Pilani taught various methods of yoga to children and the general public.

Vacant posts: Twenty out of 52 posts of head teachers in various government primary schools in Malerkotla, Block-I, have been lying vacant for the past one year. The Block Primary Education Officer, Mrs Jasmail Kaur, said two posts of centre heads and 11 posts of JBT teachers have also been lying vacant in various schools in the block.

Burn injuries: Ms Sinderpal Kaur (15) got serious burn injuries when her clothes caught fire while she was cooking food in her house at Bajidpur Badese village on Friday. She is undergoing treatment.

MOGA
Link roads:
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Kulbir Singh Kang, on Saturday asked the village panchayats in the district to complete all link roads linking their respective villages with the main road for improving transportation facilities.

Wheat husk: A spokesman of the Forest Department said here on Sunday that burning of wheat husk by farmers in villages of the district for preparing land for paddy sowing had caused considerable damage to trees of the department. He urged the authorities concerned to take action against those farmers who had been responsible for this loss.

NAWANSHAHR
Blood donation camp:
Students of the local CMC Computer Education Centre and the local Blood Donors Council organised a blood donation camp here on Saturday. The camp was inaugurated by Mr S.R Bhagat, Assistant Registrar, Cooperative Societies.

PATIALA
Uniforms distributed:
The Basant Ritu Young Club, Tripuri, here organised a programme at Hindu Public High School recently in which books and school uniforms were distributed to 50 poor and needy students of five schools.

Dharna: Residents of government quarters in Rajpura Colony and those in residential colonies at Rajindra Hospital and Medical College staged separate dharnas on Friday to protest against an additional 10 per cent cut in their salaries for living in government quarters.

Lecture:
Dr G.S Soni, President of the Delhi Homoeopathic Medical Association, delivered a lecture on AIDS at Punjab Police Academy here on Saturday. About 400 trainees and staff members of the academy participated.

UGC grades:
The staff council of Gandhi Memorial National College in the cantonment here have thanked the Haryana Government for implementing UGC grades for college and university teachers and for introducing the pension scheme for teachers of aided colleges.

Traders' union: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Sadar Bazaar Traders Association: Chairman — Mr Brij Goel; President — Mr Paras Das Jain; Senior Vice-President — Mr Mohinder Gupta; Vice-Presidents — Mr K.K Verma, Mr Jai Kishen Sharma, and Mr Lalit Sachdeva; and General Secretary — Mr Kamal Kishore.

GURGAON
Awarded:
Mr Parveen Bahal, a local handicapped person, has been selected for this year's Red and White Bravery award. He has been awarded for his contributions for the upliftment of the handicapped.

Memorandum: Teachers working on contract basis at government schools in the district have submitted a memorandum to the Education Minister, Prof Ram Bilas Sharma, and demanded that their services be regularised and full pay scale should be given to them. The minister gave them an assurance regarding this.

JIND
Two die:
Two persons were killed in two separate incidents in the district, according to reports received here on Sunday. Mr Ram Phal, a mechanic of Haryana Roadways, was electrocuted while he was washing his hands in the water tank at the local roadways workshop. According to the reports, there was an electric current in the water tank. In another mishap an employee of the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam was killed near Safidon town after he was knocked down by a vehicle.

Lok Adalat: A Lok Adalat was held at the local judicial complex on Saturday. Ms Kiran Anand Lal, District and Sessions Judge, here presided. As many as 244 cases were decided.

Suicide: Rekha, a married woman, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Dhakal village of the district, according to a report received here on Sunday. Mr Suresh, brother of the deceased, in a complaint said her sister was being harassed by her in-laws for more dowry.

Car-stolen: A Maruti car was stolen from the local Kanungo street on Saturday. Mr Shamsher Jung Singla, owner of the car, said he had parked the car outside his residence from where it was stolen.

KURUKSHETRA
Vaccine dose:
The local Rotary Club under it's programme, "War Against Hepatitis" administered the first dose of hepatitis-B vaccine free of cost to about 100 poor children at Bhardwaj Hospital here on Sunday. Dr R. Bhardwaj, President of the club, said the second dose of the vaccine would be administered on June 27 and the final dose on November 14.

SIRSA
Arrested:
Ranbir Singh and Subhash Chander of Khari Sureran village in the district were arrested by Ellenabad police on the charge of breaking into a shop. A case has been registered under Sections 457 and 380, IPC. The police recovered some goods from them.

Nominated: Ram Singh Kagdana, President, Haryana Vikas Party, youth wing, has been nominated Chairman of Market Committee, Ding, in the district. Bhura Ram, an activist of the party, has been nominated Vice-Chairman of the committee.

Held: The police here has arrested Thakur Inder Singh and Dharmvir Singh of Inderpuri mohalla in connection with a theft case here on Saturday. Mr B.S. Sandhu, Superintendent of Police, said on Sunday that both had allegedly stolen an Ambassador car from Arya Samaj road on Wednesday.top

BILASPUR
Policy opposed:
The Himachal Pradesh Government State Highly Qualified Teachers Association has opposed the present policy of the government to appoint widows and handicapped persons as water carriers in schools. It has expressed doubts that after few years this policy would result in there being no school chowkidars.

JWALAMUKHI
Suicides:
Surender Kumar (27) of Khundian village allegedly committed suicide on Saturday by hanging himself from a tree. In another incident, Sonu of Basdi Kohala allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. He was a class X student.

PALAMPUR
Mishap:
At least 15 persons were injured, two of them seriously, when a bus carrying about 20 persons met with an accident near a toll-tax check post here on Friday. According to eye witnesses, overspeeding was the cause of the mishap.

SHIMLA
Stone laid:
Thakur Gulab Singh, Speaker, Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, on Saturday laid the foundation stone of a bridge on Binwa khud to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 23.25 lakh in Jogindernagar tehsil of Mandi district. He also inaugurated the lift-water supply scheme at Bhran village.

Annual grant: Mr Subhash Puri, member of the executive council of Himachal Pradesh University, has urged the government to enhance the annual grant of the university to Rs 21 crore from the existing Rs 14 crore. He demanded that at least 500 bighas should be provided to the university for further expansion.top
