Body found in hotel:
The body of a middle-aged Sikh was found in Taj Mahal Hotel, in front of the local bus stand on Friday. According to Mr B.K. Sinha, SP, City, the man checked in the hotel on Thursday. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

FEROZEPORE
Dharna:
The district unit of the Punjab Mulazim Sangharsh Committee held a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Friday. They demanded bonus in cash.

LUDHIANA
Speaker's assurance:
The Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Mr Charanjit Singh Atwal, has assured the farmers that they would be given suitable compensation for the land being acquired by the Government for an industrial focal point on the Kohara-Machhiwara road. He said this while addressing farmers during a sangat darshan programme at Bhagpur village, 25 km from here.

MOGA
Two killed:
Two persons were killed on Friday when the Punjab Tubewell Corporation truck lost control and crushed them, according to the police. The truck was on way to Ferozepore from Ludhiana and the accident occurred at Akalsar crossing. The truck driver has been arrested.

NAWANSHAHR
Inauguration:
Mr Justice H.S. Brar, Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court, will inaugurate a permanent Lok Adalat here on May 29, Mr J.K.Dutta, President, Bar Association, said here on Saturday.

PATIALA
UGC notification:
The Punjab Government College Teachers Association has decried the incomplete implementation of the UGC notification regarding pay-scales of teachers. In a press statement, Dr P.S. Bhatti, president of the associations claimed that though the Finance Minister, Capt Kanwaljit Singh, had assured the teachers about the total implementation of the notification on pay-scales. The government had implemented only some part of the notification.

SAMANA
Sangat darshan:
A sangat darshan programme was held at Maharaja Palace on Saturday. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Jasbir Singh Bir, and the ADC, Patiala, Mr Gagandeep Singh, solved as many as 24 complaints.

Inaugurated:
The Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Navraj Sandhu, inaugurated a hearing and speech therapy centre at Apna Hospital in the city on Thursday.

JIND
Bar association:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the District Bar Association: President — Mr Bharat Singh Saini; Senior Vice-President — Mr Narinder Bangar; Vice-President — Mr Rajesh Kumar Sharma; and Secretary — Mr Virinder Singh.

Ban: Mr Tarun Bajaj, Deputy Commissioner, has prohibited the sale of cut fruits, vegetables, ice candies, kulfies, sharbats in view of the danger of outbreak of cholera in the district.

SONEPAT
Injured:
Surinder, alias Nikku was injured when Daryao Singh allegedly shot at him in Garhi Ujale Khan village, 40 km from here, on Friday. The injured was admitted to the Medical College and Hospital, Rohtak. The police has registered a case under Sections 307 and 341, IPC, and the Arms Act.

BILASPUR
Property damage:
Timber worth lakhs of rupees reportedly destroyed at Chakli Benla village, 19 km from here, when a saw mill and timber depot of Mr Ramanand Bhardwaj caught fire on Thursday. Station Fire Officer Mahinder Singh Sonkhla said here on Friday that fire-engines reached the spot and succeeded in saving several other houses and a furniture factory with the help of villagers.

Urged: Mr Hoshiyar Singh Thakur, member, Zila Parishad, and villagers of Reeh, Katal, Sanan, Garamauda and Karmala have criticised the proposal of setting up of a stone crusher near Luhand Khud and demanded that either this proposal should be dropped or it should be shifted at least 2 km away from the proposed site. In a representation submitted to the Chief Minister, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, leaders said the it would effect their fields.
Truck operators union: The first meeting of the executive committee of the Bilaspur District Truck Operators Cooperative Union held here at Kisan Bhavan on Thursday failed to transact any business. The members blamed one another for having committed financial irregularities.

CHAMBA
Minister's order:
Mr Kishori Lal, Himachal Industries Minister, has directed the district authorities to ensure attendance of officials in their respective offices. The Minister said this while presiding at a meeting of the district-level grievances committee held at the local Bachat Bhavan on Friday. He also directed the Forest Department to investigate illegal encroachments on the forest land at Dalhousie and Khajjiar.

KANGRA
Federation's plea:
Himachal Pradesh contractual teachers have demanded the benefits of the dearness allowance on par with the regular teachers. Mr Pawan Kumar, spokesman, Government Primary Contractual Teachers Federation, said the basic pay of the JBT regular teachers had gone up from Rs 1200 to Rs 4560 where as the basic pay of contractual teachers was stagnant at Rs 1,200 for the past four year.

KULU
Hops cultivation:
The Welfare Association of Mediroma Nirgalits International has welcomed the decision of the Himachal Government in promoting the hops cultivation by encouraging the processing unit at Baddi. Mr Manish Kapoor, General Secretary of the association, said they had also taken up the matter with the government regarding 'kuth' to be declared as an agricultural produce.

Arrested: Fred Robinson, a Zambian, was arrested from a beer bar on Friday. Mr Zahurh Zaidi, SP said 10 grams of 'speed' and nine grams brown sugar was found in his possession. A case has been registered.

SHIMLA
Urged:
The Himachal Public Works Department Graduate Engineers Association has urged the Government to fill 50 per cent posts of junior engineers (grade I) from amongst graduate engineers. It also demanded a payscale of Rs 6500 to Rs 10,500 for junior engineers (grade I) at entry level and recruitment for the posts of the assistant engineers through promotions from junior engineers (grade I) cadre.

SUNDERNAGAR
Demand:
The Technical Teachers (Gazetted) Association has urged the Government to fill the post of the Director Technical Education at the earliest. In a representation addressed to the Forest Minister and the Minister for Technical Education, the association has demanded that the post should be filled from the department.
