N-test anniversary celebrations
ISLAMABAD, May 22 (AFP) — Pakistan today launched eight-day-long celebrations to mark the one-year anniversary of nuclear weapons tests carried out in response to Indian testing. The colourful programme drawn up by the government for the first anniversary of the nuclear tests includes torch-bearing processions, youth fairs, sporting events, seminars and rallies.

6 hurt by IAF shell
MIDNAPORE (WB), May 22 (PTI) — Six women were seriously injured after they were hit by some shells dropped from an Indian airforce plane in a prohibited area at Shankarbani last night, the police said here today. The plane, flown from Kalaikunda air base, was run by trainee pilots during a routine exercise, they said. The women had apparently entered the Shankarbani area, a prohibited zone of the IAF, to collect wood, the police said.

Building blasted
HYDERABAD, May 22 (PTI) — Naxalites went on rampage blasting a building, housing two government offices, besides torching a state-owned road transport corporation (APSRTC) bus in two separate incidents in Nizamabad district early today. No one was injured.

13 fishermen dead
KARACHI, May 22 (Reuters) — Thirteen Pakistani fishermen missing for three months have been found dead in their boat off the coast of Southern Baluchistan province of Ormara, a private aid body said today. An official of the Edhi Welfare Trust said the 13 were found in the "Al-Saad', a boat that went missing after leaving Karachi three months ago on a fishing trip. He said it was not known how the fishermen died.

19 Muslims killed
ALGIERS, May 22 (Reuters) — Algerian government troops have shot dead 19 Muslim rebels suspected of killing nine villagers, a local daily said today. The troops, backed by helicopter gunships, killed the 19 rebels in Belefgaa mountain in Tiaret province, 220 km southwest of Algiers, on Wednesday at the end of a week-long offensive.

Dictionary on web
MOSCOW, May 22 (PTI) — External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh will inaugurate a Hindi-Russian dictionary on the Internet website during his forthcoming trip here beginning tomorrow. The dictionary comprising 15 thousand words has been jointly complied by the Indian Studies of the Oriental Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre (JNCC) of the Indian Embassy in Moscow.Top
