27 feared drowned
PATNA, March 27 (PTI) — At least 27 persons were feared drowned when a countryboat carrying them capsized and sank into the Tileya Dam reservoir in Koderma district in south Bihar yesterday, the police said today. The boat carrying about 40 persons was sailing to Koderma from Madhavapur village when it was caught in a storm and sank, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Hazaribagh) K.B. Singh said on the phone. Thirteen of them swam ashore.

16 die in collision
HARDWAR, March 27 (PTI) — At least 16 persons were killed and 12 critically injured, all hailing from Delhi, in a head-on collision at around 4 a.m. between a Tempo and a coal-laden truck near Bahadarabad village in Hardwar district of Uttar Pradesh early today, the police said. The victims, residents of Nangloi and Sultanpuri in Delhi, were occupants of the Tempo which was on its way from the Capital to Hardwar.

Minister’s kin shot
GUWAHATI, March 27 (PTI) — Assam Agriculture Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary’s brother was shot dead by suspected ULFA militants here last night barely 24 hours after they attacked Health Minister Kamala Kalita’s brother. Mr Patowary’s younger brother Promod Patowary was shot at point-blank range at his throat by motorcycle-borne killers in the Rupnagar area here while he was returning home on foot from his pharmacy in the nearby Ganeshguri area. He died on the spot, official sources said today.
