Camp:
A blood donation camp was held at Ajnala on Wednesday where 52 persons donated blood for the soldiers wounded in Kargil. It was inaugurated by Mrs Avtar Kaur, wife of Dr Rattan Singh Minister for Animal Husbandry.

GURDASPUR
Gang busted:
The police here has busted a gang of cheats who were allegedly involved in the fabrication of fake certificates on a large scale. Mr Varinder Kumar, SSP, said Hira Lal of Dayalgarh Chhorian and Raj Kumar of Taragarh were arrested on Wednesday in this regard. A case under Sections 420, 466, 409, 468, 471 and 443, IPC, registered.

HOSHIARPUR
Action sought:
More than 150 sarpanches met Mr Iqbal Singh Sidhu, Deputy Commissioner, here on Wednesday and demanded strict action against the revenue patwaris who have been on an indefinite strike to get their demands accepted.

Lok Adalat: A Lok Adalat was held here in which 28 cases were disposed of. This was stated by Mr R.M Gupta, District and Sessions Judge, here in a press note issued on Tuesday.

LUDHIANA
Power breakdown:
There was a 12-hour power breakdown on Tuesday in LIG flats, Sector 32 here. In a press statement, Mr R.R Katyal, General Secretary of the residents association alleged that despite repeated requests nobody from the PSEB restored the supply.

MOGA
Electric poles:
Residents of several villages in the district on Thursday complained that they had not received power supply for the past several days. They told mediapersons that a large number of electric poles which had been uprooted during last fortnight's duststorm had not been erected.

PATIALA
Pensions:
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Jasbir Singh Bir, has said Rs 1.97 crore has been received as old-age pension covering a period from October, 1998, to December, 1998, and it will be disbursed to 26,297 beneficiaries by June 30.

Tubewell connections: The Punjab State Electricity Board has decided to release temporary tubewell connections up to 7.5 BHP capacity to farmers of the state. The farmers will have to pay Rs 3,000 per connection and these will be allowed to run till October 31.

PHAGWARA
Gazettes:
Mr Sudesh Aggarwal, President, Local Book Sellers Association, on Wednesday demanded that copies of the gazettes of results declared should be made available at the school board's sub-depot here, instead of Kapurthala.

SAMRALA
Power supply:
The Chief Engineer, PSEB, Ludhiana, Mr Kirpal Singh, on Wednesday inaugurated a, 24-hour power supply to Lal Kalan village, 5 km from here. He said 300 villages in Ludhiana would be provided the facility.

Cars impounded: The local police impounded six cars by Mr M.P. Arora, Joint Transport Commissioner, Punjab on Wednesday for being plied as taxis.top

Yoga classes: A six-week course on yogic exercises, purification process and meditation will be held at Sood Bhavan, Sector 44-A, from June 20 under the supervision of Dr Rakesh Giri. The programme will be sponsored by the Sood Sabha.

Martyrdom day: Students of Hostel No1, Panjab University, on Thursday observed the martyrdom day of Guru Arjun Dev by serving sweetened water to passers-by, Binder Singh, a student leader, said in a press note.

Expelled: Mr Surinder Bhardwaj, President of the local unit of the Janata Dal, has expelled Mr Rajinder Mohan Kashyap, General Secretary and official spokesman of the unit, for his anti-party activities, according to Dr Harjit Singh Babbar, Secretary-General of the unit.

Exam result: The result for the recruitment of clerical cadre posts in public sector banks, conducted by the Banking Service Recruitment Board on November 29 last year, has been published in the Employment News, dated June 12-18, Secretary of the Board, announced here today.

Workshop for kids: A free art and painting workshop for children between the age group of 5 to 18 will be held under the guidance of Dr P.S. Verma, founder of the City Beautiful Arts School and Fine Arts Hobby Centre, in Sector 46. The workshop will be held from June 21 to June 26 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Plea: The Federation of Migrant Groups from North-Western India (now Pakistan) has urged the Chandigarh Administration not to convert one of the buildings of the Government Museum, Sector 10, Chandigarh, into a library-cum- information centre to be run by the British Council of the British High Commission, New Delhi. In a press statement issued on Thursday, President of the association, S.K. Sharma said renting out a government building to a foreign country was against our national interest, and instead a museum on migrants from Pakistan should be set up.

Power failure: The Market Welfare Association, Sector 37-C, has complained of erratic power supply in the market, particularly during the peak evening hours. Repeated complaints to the Electricity Department have failed to elicit any response, a press note alleged on Thursday.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Market Welfare Association, Sector 40-C (booth No. 110 to 134 and SCO No 99 to 110): President — Mr Rajinder Singh; Vice-President — Mr Amarjit Singh; General Secretary — Mr Mohinder Arora; and Treasurer — Mr Surinder Singla.

MULLANPUR-GARIBDASS
Power supply: Residents here have been facing frequent power failures for the post 10 days. Certain pockets of the village have been getting low voltage supply for the past several days. A number of shopkeepers complain that their business is being affected due to tripping. Power failure has also hit the water supply in the area.top

KAITHAL
24-hour supply:
The Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, has reaffirmed his commitments regarding the 24-hour power supply in the state after June 30. He was addressing a public meeting at Pai village in the district on Wednesday.

ROHTAK
Appointed:
Mr R.S. Mann has been appointed President of the Poorva Sainik Morcha Prakoshtha (Haryana unit). He has been authorised to constitute the state executive, according to a press note of the party.

Transferred: Mr Arun Kumar has taken over the charge as the Deputy Commissioner here on Wednesday. He succeeds Mr Anil Kumar who has been transferred to Sonepat. Mr Arun Kumar was earlier posted as Deputy Commissioner, Jhajjar.

SIRSA
Held for cheating:
Onkar Verma, a skin specialist, here has been arrested by the police on Tuesday on the charge of cheating on a complaint of Ms Nirmal Yadav, District and Sessions Judge. Mr B.S Sandhu, Senior Superintendent of Police, said here on Wednesday that the accused had collected Rs 2 lakh from his relatives in lieu of their acquittal by her in a rape case. A case under Section 420, IPC, has been registered.

Sentenced: The District and Sessions Judge here sentenced Lakhvinder Singh, his mother, Baldev Kaur, and his sister, Jasbir Kaur, of Baraguda village to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 each in connection with the murder of Lakhvinder's wife, Nirmala Kaur, here on Wednesday.

Arrested: Sita Ram Nai of Chautala village in the district was arrested by the police on Tuesday, and a .315-bore pistol and one cartridge was recovered from him.. A case under the Arms Act has been registered.

Suicides: Two persons in the district allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison on Tuesday. They have been identified as Kulwant Singh of Darewala village in Dabwali subdivision and Harbhajan of Lakranwali village. Both were reported to be mentally disturbed.

BILASPUR
PTV banned:
The District Magistrate, Mr Ramesh Kapil, on Wednesday passed an order banning the relay of Pakistan TV programmes by all cable operators in the district under the Cable Television Network regulatory Act.

Leader dead: Parasram Durvasha (60), a social worker and state General Secretary of the Himachal Janata Party, died of a heart attack here on Tuesday. His funeral was largely attended.

HAMIRPUR
Donations:
Members of the Retired Defence Officers Welfare Association of the district have decided to donate their one-day pension towards the Chief Minister Sainik Welfare Fund. A decision to this effect was taken on Wednesday at a meeting of the association.

KULU
Hashish seized:
K. Azami, a Japanese, was held at Bhuntar airport on Wednesday for allegedly carrying 90 grams of hashish. A case under the Section 20, NDPS Act, was registered.
