FAZILKA
Mishap:
Rajesh Kumar (32) of Khuian Sarvar village was killed when a truck hit his scooter near Arniwala village on the Fazilka-Malout road, on Thursday evening .

FEROZEPORE
Elected:
Mr Rajkumar has been elected Vice-President of the Ferozepore Cantonment Board.

Sapling plantation: The local office of IFFCO undertook a sapling plantation campaign and planted nearly 300 saplings at Naseeran Khalchian village, near here on Thursday.

Shaheedi conference: The BSP and the Sarb Hind SAD will hold a shaheedi conference at Anajmandi at Guruharshai town in this district on Saturday to mark the martyrdom day of Sardar Udham Singh.

JALANDHAR
Appointed:
Mr Chetan Dass Chadha has been appointed Vice-President of the District Youth Congress (Jalandhar Urban).

MOGA
Resentment:
Resentment prevails among residents of Bhekha and Alamwal village in this district over the non-completion of 1-2 km stretches of roads between Bhekha and Langeana Purana village and between Baghapurana and Alamwala villages. They said on Thursday that although the Chief Minister had assured them that the roads would be constructed, nothing had been done in this regard.

NAWANSHAHR
Identity cards:
Senior citizens and handicapped persons will be issued identity cards by the District Social Security Officer to enable them to avail the benefits of various new government schemes. Stating this in a press note issued here on Thursday, Mr Dalip Kumar, ADC, said the handicapped persons would have to attach a certificate of minimum 40 per cent disability with the forms.

PWD staff's plea: The district unit of the PWD (B&R) Employees Union, at a meeting here on Thursday urged the state government to grant drawing and disbursing powers to the local executive engineer and also to allot the construction of bridges and roads of Balachaur subdivision to the local office.

BDS students:
The failure of 164 of the 200 BDS second year students in various dental colleges of Mansa, Faridkot, Sunam and Patiala in the microbiology examination has created a furore among them. They have urged the Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor, Dr J.S.Ahluwalia, to review the result.

Nominated: Mr Kuldip Singh has been unanimously nominated Chairman of the UT Secretariat Welfare Association as well as the President of the Class IV Government Employees Union.

Felicitated: The All-Gurdwara Sahyog Committee at a special congregation held at the Sector 19 Gurdwara on Friday felicitated Mr Joginder Singh Sawhney, Mr Amrinder Singh and Mr Manmohan Singh Kohli on their election to the local unit of the Sarb Hind Shiromani Akali Dal.

Training classes: The Languages Department, Punjab, is starting training classes in Punjabi stenography and instructors training from September 1. According to a press note, the basic qualification for the admission to stenography is matriculation or plus two, while it was graduation with Punjabi as a compulsory subject for the Punjabi stenography. The last date for the submission of forms is July 10.top

FATEHABAD
Murder:
The body of Birbal (34) of Babanpur village in the district was found in the Ghaggar canal with injury marks on the head. The victim's father, Bhana Ram, has alleged that his son was killed by Gurdeep of Lamba village who owed some money to Birbal. A case has been registered.

Woman dead: Bhadon (29), mother of four, died on Thursday at Bhathi Kala in the district. According to the members of the family, she took a tablet after having her lunch at her home. Later she complained of stomachache. She died in the evening.

Burn injuries : A woman received serious burn injuries when a lighted lantern fell on her. Kalawan was cooking food when the mishap occurred. She has been admitted to the local general hospital.

FARIDABAD
Students clash:
Two groups of students of the local Nehru College on Thursday clashed in Sector 16 with swords, lathis and hockey sticks. One of the students who received serious stab injuries has been admitted to a private hospital while another has been arrested. It is stated that the clash was the result of a ragging incident last year.

SIRSA
Committee formed:
A standing committee has been formed in the district on the instructions of the Election Commission for the smooth conduct of the impending Lok Sabha elections. The Deputy Commissioner, Dr Avtar Singh, would be the chairman of the committee.

Suspended: Three personnel of the Railway Police, Mandi Kalanwali, including Balwan Singh, in charge, Police post, Mandi Kalanwali Railway Station, were reportedly placed under suspension on Thursday. According to sources, they were facing a departmental inquiry.

Suicide: Hansraj (18) of Abubsahar village in the district died after consuming poison on Thursday. According to sources, he consumed a poisonous substance at his house. The cause of the suicide was not known.

Succumbed: Meena (22) of Madhosinghana village in the district succumbed to her burn injuries at Civil Hospital here on Thursday. The victim had set herself afire on July 24 and was admitted to the hospital with serious burn injuries. In her statement, she had said that her husband used to harass her which forced her to take this step. A case has been registered against the accused.top

Relay fast:
Five leaders of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad went on a relay fast at Government Postgraduate College on Thursday in support of their demands which include starting of MA ( maths ) classes and doubling of seats in MA economics and M. Com classes.

NURPUR
Re-appointment flayed:
The Kangra District HP Government Teachers Association has taken a strong exception to the re-appointment of the Joint Director, Physical Education, who had retired a few months ago. Mr Onkar Rana, President, of the district unit of the association in a statement here on Thursday, flayed the state government for the extension.
