Books released:
The Mansarovar Punjabi Sahit Akademi released three books authored by Mr Gopal Singh Nirwair here on Sunday. The Punjabi books released on the occasion were "Anne Malah" ( novel), "Roti Chahidi hai" ( short stories) and "Kalam de Athru" (poetry). Among those who spoke on the occasion included Mr Santokh Singh Tapaswi, Editor, Mansarowar, Mr R S Bindra, President, Mansarovar, Punjabi Sahit Akademi.

BATALA
Girl found:
The police has claimed to have recovered a minor girl, Manpreet Kaur (13) within 36 hours of her being reported missing from school on July 23. She was found from the New Delhi railway station. This was stated by Mr Lok Nath Aangra, chief of Batala police, on Monday.

FEROZEPORE
Saplings planted:
The local unit of the Rotary Club on Sunday planted nearly 50 saplings of different varieties at the Dev Samaj College for Women here. This was stated here by the club President, Mr M.R. Manchanda.

GURDASPUR
Gang busted: The police has busted an inter-district gang of cheats involved in the fabrication of documents like driving licences of vehicles and taking money from people by promising jobs. A case under Sections 420,465,467,468 and 471, IPC, has been registered.

Association:

New party: A new political party, Chandigarh Nagrik Vikas Manch, was floated here on Sunday. The manch has decided to field Mr Manphool Singh, a former Haryana minister, as its candidate for the lone Chandigarh Parliamentary seat. Mr Brijpal Baba has been appointed Press Secretary of the manch.
Wholesalers' association: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Chandigarh Wholesalers Car Parts Association: President — Mr Lalit Kapoor; Vice-President — Mr I.D. Sharma; General Secretary — Mr T.S. Chawla; Secretary — Mr Mr Rajesh Kumar; and Treasurer — Mr Narinder Pal.
Resolution: The Sector 37 Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha at a special congregation held on Sunday passed a resolution against the orders of the Administration for wearing helmets by both women drivers and pillion-riders of two-wheelers and called upon the women to sport blue and yellow patkas on their heads as a mark of protest.

PANIPAT
Strike:
Advocates of the district court here suspended their work on Monday in protest against the inaction of the police regarding the robbery committed case in the house of Mr Ashok Arora, a local advocate. They threatened to go on an indefinite strike if the police did not arrest the culprits.

ROHTAK
Body found:
The police has recovered a body of a woman from the fields near Kalanpur town, 18 km from here, on Sunday. According to police sources, the body was packed in a gunny bag and thrown in a pit. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. In another case a Maruti car was stolen from Chhotu Ram stadium here on Sunday. The car belonged to Mr Rajiv Malik of Model Town here.

SONEPAT
Murder case solved:
With the arrest of one person , the Sadar police on Monday claimed to have solved the murder of a youth, Pradeep of Bayyanpur village whose body was found on the intervening night of July 9 and 10 in a field. The arrested person has been identified as Phool Kumar, alias Tiloo of the same village.
Demonstration:
The district unit of the Sarv Karamchari Sangh, Haryana, will organise a demonstration here on Tuesday to protest against the murder of a trade union leader, Ms Saroj Vashisht, and her six-year-old daughter in Rohtak. This was stated by Mr Janardhan Prasad Kothari, Secretary of the district unit of the sangh, at a rally held here on Sunday.
Women candidates:
The district unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha has urged the party high command to allocate 33 per cent seats to women candidates for contesting the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. This demand is contained in a resolution adopted at a district-level convention of the morcha held here on Sunday.

SIRSA
12 hurt:
More than 12 persons, including a woman, were injured in separate accidents in the district on Sunday. According to information, a motor cycle collided with a Maruti car near Dabwali, injuring two person seriously. The car driver has reportedly absconded. In another accident a Tata 407 collided with a jeep near the local Dera Sacha Sauda injuring three persons. In the third accident a jeep carrying devotees to Dera Sacha Sauda overturned on the Barnala road in which six persons were injured.
Kavi sammelan:
A "kavi sammelan" was organised in the memory of Kargil martyrs here on Sunday at the native village of soldier Krishan Kumar who had laid down his life in Operation Vijay Kargil. The father of Krishan Kumar was given Rs 11,000 by the Haryana Cooperative Societies Welfare Organisation and free bus pass for life.
Suicides:
Two persons, including the priest of the local Ramdev Temple in Prem Nagar, allegedly committed suicide on Sunday. According to information, Manohar Lal consumed pesticide. He was admitted to the local Civil Hospital in a serious condition where he died. Devi Lal of Gudia Khera village allegedly consumed poison. The reason of the suicide has not been established.
Dead:
Ram Prakash (45), a farmer of Kharian village in the district, died at the local Civil Hospital on Sunday. According to informed sources, he was bitten by a snake when he was working in his fields.
Suicide committed:
Meena (20), mother of a newly born child, allegedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire at Madhosinghana village in the district on Sunday. According to informed sources, she was being harassed by her husband. She received 100 per cent burns and succumbed to her injuries.

JWALAMUKHI
Crushed to death:
Naresh (20) was killed by a truck near Ahe di Hatti village on Jwalamukhi-Nadaun road on Monday. The driver reportedly lost control of the truck which led to the mishap. A case has been registered.
Train service:
The train service here which was cancelled during Operation Vijay had been restored. This was stated by the Station Superintendent on Sunday.
CM visits shrine:
The Chief Minister, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, along with the Technical Education Minister, Mr Ravinder Singh Ravi, and the IPH Minister, Mr Ramesh Choudhary, visited the shrine here in Dehra subdivision on Monday to pay obeisance.

NURPUR
Three arrested:
The police has arrested three persons for allegedly molesting a girl at Batahri village of Ajwali subdivision on Sunday. According to information, five persons under the influence of liquor entered the house of the girl, who was alone at that time, and tried to rape her. A case under Section 451,354 and 34, IPC, has been registered.

Union:
The following have been elected office-bearers of state unit of the National Students Union of India: Vice-President — Mr Rakesh Daulta; General Secretary — Mr Rakesh Chauhan and Press Secretary — Mr Ritesh Kapret.
