Demanded:
Members of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) here demanded on Thursday that strict action be taken against Mr Tirath Dass Sindhwani, a local scribe, for allegedly attacking, Dr Tirloki Nath of Civil Hospital here on Monday, when he was on OPD duty, in the hospital.

Seed Dealers Association:

FEROZEPORE
Bribery:
Gian Chand, a copy clerk in the judicial court at Gidderbaha, was arrested by the DSP (Vigilance), Muktsar, Mr Vinod Kumar, for acepting a bribe of Rs 200 from Mr Vakil Singh, a resident of Rakhla village. A case under Sections 7, 13 (2) 88 of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered.

GURDASPUR
Case registered :
The police has registered a case against Manoj Kumar and Harbans Lal, both residents of Gurdaspur, for allegedly selling 47 marlas of land located in Shehzada Nangal here to Mr Shivdev Singh of Ranipur. According to Mr Varinder Kumar, SSP, the land did not belong to the said persons.

Elected:
Dr G.S. Dhaliwal, Professor of Ecology at PAU, has been elected vice-president of the Society of Pesticide Science, India. He is also the founder president of the Society of Biopesticide Sciences and the Indian Society for the Advancement of Insect Science.

PATIALA
Eye camp:
The president of the Lions Club (Patiala Citizen), Col G.B. Singh (retd), said on Friday that the club would organise a week-long free eye operation camp from February 21 at Karhali village in the district. He said Dr Sukhdeep Singh Boparai and his team would perform operations during the camp.

PHAGWARA
Strike :
Non-teaching employees of 70 colleges under Guru Nanak Dev University will observe a stay-in strike, hold gate rallies and submit memorandum to principals of their respective colleges on February 3 to 5 Mr R K Parmar, general secretary of the Private College Non-Teaching Employees Union, said the three-day protest programme was to press for pay revision as per the Fourth Pay Commission's recommendations, pension, gratuity and enhanced medical allowance.

Fast : A batch of the local Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha activists observed a fast on Saturday on Mahatma Gandhi's martyrdom day for the promotion of sarva dharama sambhava They flayed murder of an Australian missionary and Jehanabad massacre and said there was an international conspiracy behind the attacks. They also flayed those, who were wilfully maligning the Bajrang Dal and other Hindu bodies in this regard.

AMBALA
Arrested:
The railway police has arrested Gopal, sarpanch of Dharampur village, on the charge of murdering Krishan Lal, a resident of Hansi subdivision. The SP (Railways), Mr A.S. Ahlawar, said here on Friday that the accused along with his wife, Roopa Devi, allegedly committed the murder and threw the body on a railway track near Kalka.

Blood donation: As many as 237 students and seven teachers donated blood at a camp organised at S.D. College in the cantonment here on Friday, according to Mr Sushil Kansal, convener of the blood donation society. The Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Navraj Sandhu, inaugurated the camp.

Deputation : A deputation of the Haryana College Teachers Union met the Chief Minister, Mr Bansi Lal, here on Saturday and urged him to approve the pension scheme for teachers of the non-government affiliated colleges in the state. The deputation also urged the Chief Minister to implement the new pay-scales as per Central Government's recommendations and also release salary for the period when teachers were on strike.

BHIWANI
Gang busted:
The police has busted a gang and arrested Jai Bhagwan, Narender, Sanjay and Anil, residents of Mittathal village and Dharmbir and recovered illegal arms from them. According to the police they were planning to loot a petrol pump. The accused confessed having committed a number of thefts. The police also seized two motorcycles, stolen from different places, from the accused.

FARIDABAD
Criminals held:
The police claimed on Friday to have arrested 25 persons involved in different cases of murder, dacoity and theft of vehicles. A police spokesman said Ajay Kumar and Banwari Lal had been arrested for allegedly murdering a constable, Raj Kumar, while Kartar Chura, Anil and Bhagwan were arrested for planning to commit a dacoity and the police recovered a car, a country made pistol, cartridges and iron rods from them.

Architects forum: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Architects Forum: president— Mr Jitender Singh; and general secretary— Mr Sushil Bajaj.

FATEHABAD
Car recovered:
The police recovered on Friday a Maruti car which had reportedly been taken away by three youths from Bhuna last week. The police recovered the car near Dharnia village.

REWARI
Sentenced :
Mr M M Shara, Additional Sessions Judge, here, has sentenced Hamir Singh and his two accomplices Mahabir Singh and Rakesh to life imprisonment for killing Dr Kaushal Singh. The judge has also sentenced all of them to rigirous imprisonment for 10 years for kidnapping Dr Kaushal Singh with the intention to eliminate him. Both the sentences shall run concurrently.

ROHTAK
HCMS Association:
Dr Amarjeet Rathi and Dr Virender Kumar Nagpal have been elected president and secretary respectively of the HCMS Association, Medical College Rohtak branch. Dr Mahinder Singh and Dr Rajeev Kapoor have been elected vice-president and joint secretary respectively.

Criticised: Mrs Sandhya Saini, vice-president of the mahila wing of the Lok Dal, has criticised the administration for neglecting the development of Ward Number 11. She alleged that roads there were in bad shape and there were no electricity poles.

SONEPAT
Two arrested :
The Kharkhauda police has arrested two persons — Sunil and Hoshiara, both residents of Kanwali village, in connection with the double murder case of Balraj and Ram Chander of the same village on Sunday last. Another accused, Shyam, is still at large and the police has launched a hunt to apprehend him.

Donation : Mr Sanjeev Khanna, district governor of the Rotary International, donated equipment worth Rs 1.50 lakh to the cancer check-up centre at the local Hindu Charitable Hospital, on behalf of the Rotary Club (Uptown) here on Friday. Mr Khanna also donated book shelves for the library at Guru Nanak Model School and inaugurated a vocational training centre at the Government Primary School in Dhaturi village.

Murder case: The police has arrested two persons — Pala, alias Rajinder, a resident of Kheri Damkan village, and Danveer, alias Bhana, a resident of Katwal village, in connection with the conspiracy and alleged murder of Virender, a Delhi police constable and resident of Bhainswal Kalan village in the district, on January 17. The police was also looking for five other persons allegedly involved in the murder case.

Dharna: A number of farmers and residents of rain-hit villages in Gohana subdivision staged a dharna in front of the office of the Subdivisional Officer (Civil) at Gohana town, 35 km from here, on Thursday, in protest against the failure of the authorities to pump out rain and storm water from the affected villages in the area.

Resentment: Resentment prevails among the lecturers of the privately-managed colleges in the city and elsewhere against the non-payment of salaries for the past three months.

YAMUNANAGAR
Garbage control act:
A meeting was held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner on Friday to implement the Non-Biodegradable Garbage Control Act. Officers of municipal councils, municipal committees and other departments and representatives of various local associations took part in the meeting. Under the act use of all coloured polythene carry bags manufactured from recycled plastic has been prohibited within the Municipal Council limits. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the public to stop the use of coloured polythene carry bags and to use the assigned coloured dustbins for disposal of garbage. Hospitals and nursing homes will use yellow dustbins, green coloured dustbins will be used by general public and black coloured dustbins are meant for the disposal of non-biodegradable garbage.

KANGRA
Inaugurated:
The Chief Minister, Mr Prem Kumar Dhumal, inaugurated the administrative and the academic block of Government Polytechnic College here on Friday. The building, a Rs 2.20-crore project, will house TV, digital electronics communication and micro process laboratories, besides the principal's office.

SOLAN
Open darbar:
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Balram Sharma, presided over an open darbar organised at Kharin under Banasar panchayat in the district on Thursday. Eighteen cases were settled on the spot and 13 cases were referred to the departments concerned. Mr Sharma later inspected the building of the local Government Primary School and sanctioned Rs 2 lakh for its repair and renovation.
