Bomb attack
KURNOOL (AP), Jan 11 (PTI) — Two Congress activists were killed on the spot and six others injured, two seriously, in a bomb attack allegedly by ruling TDP workers in the faction-ridden Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh today. The tractor-borne assailants hurled crude bombs at a lorry carrying Congress workers between Kuruvalli and Agraharam villages, killing two persons K. Hanumanthaiah (34) and K. Lingaiah (36) on the spot, District Superintendent of Police N. Madan Mohan said.

30 hurt in violence
MIDNAPORE, Jan 11 (PTI) — The police made a lathi charge and fired eight rounds in the air early today to disperse groups of the CPM and the Trinamool Congress workers who clashed in Brahmanberia village in a fresh outbreak of violence which left 30 persons, including 15 policemen injured. The police said Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanatan Mandal was among the injured and 10 huts were ransacked and burnt down during the violence.

Hegde's house attacked
BANGALORE, Jan 11 (PTI) — Union Commerce Minister, Ramakrishna Hegde's residence here was attacked by irate sericulturists demanding withdrawal of recent union government's decision on import of mulberry raw silk. The police said the agitationists came in lorries and pelted stones at the minister's residence, smashing window panes and damaging two vans parked in the compound. Mr Hegde was away at Hunsur near Mysore when the incident took place.

Teachers court arrest
MUMBAI, Jan 11 (PTI) — Around 20,000 junior college teachers from all over Maharashtra today launched a "jail bharo" agitation to protest against the state government's reluctance to meet their demands. The teachers, who have been on strike for the past one month, are demanding among other things changes in three-tier pay structure and limited students in classrooms.

Revolt in TDP
HYDERABAD, Jan 11 (PTI) — The ruling Telugu Desam in Andhra Pradesh today received a jolt with former Minister N. Harikrishna raising a banner of revolt against his brother-in-law and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu accusing him of "running the party as his personal fiefdom, cheating party men and pursuing anti-people policies". In a strongly-worded letter to his one time comrade-in-arms, Harikrishna, son of former Chief Minister and TDP patriarch late N.T. Rama Rao, charged Naidu with giving a "quiet burial" to NTR's ideals, abolishing welfare programmes and reducing the party as "his pocket-borough".

Draft legislation
NEW DELHI, Jan 11 (PTI) — A draft legislation has been prepared for Delhi on the lines of a model Bill on apartment ownership and regulation of private builders formulated by the Union Urban Affairs Ministry. Official sources said the draft for the national Capital had been drawn up in consultation with the Law Ministry. They said the draft was still under examination and efforts were underway for its enactment during the current financial year itself.
