LUDHIANA
Contractors debarred:
The Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, has debarred two contractors from tendering for a period of one year in the corporation. According to a press note of the corporation, the contractors, M/S S.B. Construction Company and M/S Garg Construction Company, were doing substandard work.

MOGA
Inquiry against Tehsildar
: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr K.B.S. Sidhu, has reportedly ordered an inquiry against the Tehsildar of Baghapurana town for allegedly tampering with the documents of a registration deed belonging to two brothers of Bhekha village under the Baghapurana police station in the district.

Misuse of stadium: A stadium built at Marimustafa village under the Baghapurana police station in the district a few years back is now being used for dumping garbage by villagers. According to reports reaching here on Monday, despite several villagers’ objection to it, nothing has been done so far. The place is also being used to store cow dung.

PATHANKOT
Committee formed:
The president of the local Congress committee, Mr Sham Behal, has formed a 21-member committee on the directions of Mrs Sonia Gandhi to strengthen the party, according to a press note. Mr Behal has also criticised the Punjab Government for imposing "unnecessary" taxes on shopkeepers.

Rally: The local GGDSD College's NSS volunteers organised a rally on AIDS and drug awareness during the ongoing NSS camp here on Tuesday. Around 140 volunteers concentrated on the awareness drive in Sectors 32, 33, 45 and 46.

Agitation: The agitation by students of the local Homoeopathic Medical College against the Principal entered its 10th day on Tuesday, a press release said. A Parents Association and the local Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad have urged the college management to look into the matter immediately, failing an agitation would be launched.

KHARAR
Surprise visits:
Mr Jagdish Chand Sabharwal, Assistant Commissioner (Grievances), who has been given the additional charge of SDM, paid surprise visits to various offices in Kharar subdivision and found as many as 15 employees absent from duty.

FARIDABAD
Office-bearers:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Gurgaon Bank Workers Organisation: president — Mr M.K. Joshi; vice-president — Mr Puneet Verma; and general secretary — Mr H.S. Maurya.

Rehabilitation camp: The Bharat Vikas Parishad organised a camp for the rehabilitation of the handicapped at the parishad charitable dispensary on Monday. Dr H.C. Dahiya, a local physician, was the chief guest and the block INLD president, Mr Mohan Lal Juneja, was the guest of honour. As many as 400 patients were examined in the camp.

SONEPAT
Campaign against adulteration:
The district administration has launched a campaign against the sale of adulterated mustard oil in the district. Mr Sudhir Rajpal, Deputy Commissioner, told newspersons here on Monday that officials of the Health Department in coordination with officials of the Food and Supplies Department had conducted raids on some shops and taken five samples of mustard oil and sent them for examination. The police, he said, had raided a firm and seized a large quantity of mustard oil kept illegally there. A case under the Essential Commodities Act had been registered, he added.

Octroi employees: Resentment prevails among octroi employees of the Sonepat Municipal Council and other municipal committees in the district against the non-payment of their salaries. Leaders of the employees’ union have threatened to launch an agitation if the employees are not paid immediately.top

Kisan vikas samiti:
The following have been elected office-bearers of the Dawin Ghati Kisan Vikas Samiti: president — Mr Baburam Thakur; vice-president — Mr Daulat Ram Thakur; general secretary — Mr Kanshi Ram Sharma; joint secretary — Mr Roshan Lal Thakur; and treasurer — Mr Garjaram Thakur.

Gujjar parishad: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Ghumarwin unit of the Himachal Pradesh Gujjar Parishad: president — Mr Thakur Dass; senior vice-president — Mr Prakash Chand Chechi; vice-president — Mr Jagdev Singh; general secretary — Mr Prakash Chand; and treasurer — Mr Joginder Singh Rao.

Structures demolished: The nagar parishad has demolished two structures under construction in the main market area here on government land. The owners of the demolished structure have charged the nagar parishad with "favouritism".

KANGRA
Prayer for hostages:
Vivekananda Kendra, a spiritually oriented service mission, held a prayer meeting here, chaired by Swami Sumitra Chaitani of the Chinmayanand Mission, and prayed for the immediate and safe return of the passengers of the hijacked Indian Airlines plane which is grounded at the Kandahar airport in Afghanistan. People who attending the meeting said violation of human rights and harassment of innocent people was against the teachings of the Koran.

KULU
Contribution for cyclone-hit:
Staff members of the Irrigation and Public Health Circle, including casual workers, have contributed one day's salary, amounting to Rs 87,790, towards the Chief Minister's Orissa Cyclone Victims Relief Fund, according to the Superintending Engineer, Mr D.R. Gupta.
