Subramaniam declines award CHENNAI, Dec 25 Elder statesman and former Maharashtra Governor C. Subramaniam today declined to accept the "Man of the Century" award to be given to him by the Centurian trust at a function here on December 31. In a statement here, he said he had clearly indicated when the proposal was made that he did not consider it appropriate to accept the honour as there were many other leading lights who had served the country and humanity. The trust was floated by a member of the Planning Commission, Mr K. Venkatasubramaniam, to perpetuate the memory of Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi, the late pontiff of the Kanchi mutt. |
